1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the proper use and maintenance of your ABUS Granit 460 U-Lock. Please read this manual carefully before using the product to ensure optimal security and longevity.
The ABUS Granit 460 U-Lock is designed for securing bicycles against theft. It features a 12mm parabolic shackle and a double-bolting mechanism for enhanced resistance against pulling and twisting attacks. Constructed from special temper-hardened steel, it provides a balance of security and weight. ABUS locks are known for their industry-leading corrosion resistance.

3. Setup and Installation
Installing the USH Bracket
The USH bracket allows for convenient transport of your U-lock on your bicycle frame.
- Identify a suitable location on your bicycle frame (e.g., seat tube, down tube) that does not interfere with pedaling or other components.
- Attach the two parts of the USH bracket around the frame tube.
- Secure the bracket firmly using the provided screws or tightening mechanism. Ensure it is tight enough to prevent movement during cycling.
- Insert the U-lock shackle into the bracket's designated slot until it clicks securely into place.
- Test the bracket by gently shaking the bike to ensure the lock is held firmly.
4. Operation
Locking Your Bicycle
- Position your bicycle next to a secure, immovable object (e.g., a bike rack, lamppost).
- Remove the shackle from the lock body.
- Pass the shackle through the bicycle frame (and ideally a wheel) and around the immovable object.
- Reinsert both ends of the shackle into the lock body.
- Insert one of the supplied keys into the keyhole and turn it to engage the locking mechanism.
- Remove the key and ensure the shackle is firmly secured within the lock body by attempting to pull it apart.

Unlocking Your Bicycle
- Insert the key into the keyhole.
- Turn the key to disengage the locking mechanism.
- Pull the shackle out of the lock body.
- Remove the shackle from around your bicycle and the immovable object.
- Store the lock securely, preferably using the USH bracket on your bicycle.
5. Maintenance
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of non-greasy lock lubricant (e.g., graphite-based or PTFE spray) into the keyhole and shackle mechanism. This helps maintain smooth operation and prevents corrosion. Avoid using oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
- Cleaning: Wipe the lock body and shackle with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Ensure the lock is dry before storage or use.
- Key Care: Keep your keys clean and avoid bending or damaging them. Store one key in a safe, separate location as a spare.
- Inspection: Regularly check the lock for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. If the lock mechanism becomes stiff or difficult to operate, apply lubricant. If significant damage is observed, consider replacing the lock.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Key is difficult to insert or turn. | Dirt or debris in the keyhole; lack of lubrication; bent key. | Clean the keyhole with compressed air. Apply lock lubricant. Try a spare key. If the key is bent, do not force it; use a spare. |
| Shackle is stiff or difficult to remove/insert. | Dirt or corrosion in the shackle mechanism; lack of lubrication. | Clean the shackle ends and the lock body openings. Apply lock lubricant to the shackle and into the lock body openings. |
| Lock does not engage/disengage properly. | Internal mechanism issue; severe damage. | Ensure the key is fully inserted and turned correctly. If the problem persists after lubrication and cleaning, the lock may be damaged and require replacement. |
