5. Installation

Before you begin: Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker. This device is designed for single-pole applications and does not require a neutral wire, but a ground wire is mandatory.

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker controlling the switch you are replacing and turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and unscrew the old switch from the wall box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch.
  3. Identify Wires: In a typical single-pole setup without a neutral wire, you will find:
    • HOT (Line) Wire: This wire brings power from the circuit breaker.
    • LOAD Wire: This wire carries power to the light fixture or appliance.
    • GROUND Wire: Typically bare copper or green insulated.

Note: If you are unsure about wire identification, consult a qualified electrician.

  4. Wire the Timer Switch: Connect the wires from the wall box to the timer's terminals using the provided wire nuts.
    • Connect the HOT (Line) wire from the wall box to the timer's HOT terminal (usually black).
    • Connect the LOAD wire from the wall box to the timer's LOAD terminal (usually red).
    • Connect the GROUND wire from the wall box to the timer's GROUND terminal (green).

  5. Mount the Switch: Carefully push the wired switch into the wall box. Secure it with the mounting screws. Attach the wall plate.
  6. Restore Power & Warm-Up: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker. The timer requires a warm-up period of 1-2 minutes after installation before the display activates and programming can begin. If the display does not appear immediately, wait for the specified warm-up time.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Display is blank after installation:

The timer requires a 1-2 minute warm-up period after power is restored. If the display remains blank after this period, ensure the circuit breaker is ON and check wiring connections. Press the RESET button with a small pointed object.

Diagram explaining consequences of skipping warm-up: No response from switch, timer malfunction, load-related problems like flickering LED lights.Image: Explains potential issues if the warm-up period is skipped, such as no display, timer malfunction, or flickering lights.

  • Timer does not turn ON/OFF at scheduled times:

Verify that the current time and day are set correctly. Check that the program settings (ON/OFF times and days) are entered accurately. Ensure the timer is in "AUTO" mode. If the issue persists, try resetting the timer using the RESET button and reprogramming.

  • Lights flicker or do not turn on with low-wattage loads:

This can sometimes occur with certain LED or low-wattage loads. Ensure the total wattage of the connected load is within the timer's specifications. If flickering occurs, it may indicate an incompatibility or a need for a minimum load. Consult the manufacturer's support if the problem persists.

  • Timer resets unexpectedly:

This could be due to a power fluctuation or incorrect wiring. Double-check all wiring connections, especially the HOT and LOAD wires. The built-in Ni-MH battery should retain settings during brief power outages, but prolonged outages or wiring issues can cause resets.

8. Maintenance

  • Clean the timer switch and wall plate with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Periodically check for loose connections or signs of wear.
  • The internal Ni-MH battery is designed for long life and typically does not require replacement.
