This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your Retevis RT628S FRS Two-Way Radios. These portable radios are designed for clear communication in various outdoor and indoor settings, offering features like a unique Safe-M mode for privacy, intelligent noise reduction, and hands-free operation.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the walkie talkie.
  2. Remove the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert 3 x AA batteries (not included) into each walkie talkie, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Attaching the Belt Clip

Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the walkie talkie and slide it into place until it clicks securely.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

Rotate the power/volume knob clockwise to turn the radio on. Rotate counter-clockwise until a click is heard to turn it off.

2. Volume Adjustment

Rotate the power/volume knob to adjust the listening volume (1-16 levels).

3. Channel Selection

  1. Press the MENU button once. The channel number on the LCD screen will flash.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
  3. Press MENU again or wait a few seconds for the selection to be confirmed.

4. Push-to-Talk (PTT)

To transmit, press and hold the PTT button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to listen.

5. Safe-M Mode (Privacy Feature)

The unique Safe-M mode blocks signals from other models, ensuring private communication between RT628S units. To activate/deactivate:

6. VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) Hands-Free

VOX allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT button. To activate/adjust:

  1. Press MENU twice until "VOX" appears on the display.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select the VOX sensitivity level (1-3, with 3 being most sensitive).
  3. Press MENU again or wait a few seconds to confirm.

7. Key Lock

To prevent accidental button presses, activate the Key Lock:

8. Call Tone

To send a call alert to other radios on the same channel, press the CALL button. There are 10 different call tones available.

9. Channel Scan

To scan for active channels, press the SCAN button. The radio will cycle through channels and stop on an active one. Press SCAN again to stop scanning.
