Setup and Assembly
The Brinly 42" Lawn Sweeper features new collapsible hamper braces for easier assembly. Follow these steps for proper setup:
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging and verify against the parts list (not provided in this manual, refer to product packaging for full list).
- Assemble Frame: Connect the main frame components according to the diagrams provided in the original packaging. Ensure all bolts and nuts are securely fastened.
- Attach Wheels: Securely attach the wheels to the axle.
- Install Brushes: Position the six high-velocity brushes into their designated slots.
- Mount Hamper: Assemble the polyweave fabric hamper and attach it to the sweeper frame. The collapsible braces simplify this process.
- Connect Tow Bar: Attach the universal hitch pin axle to your riding lawn or garden tractor, or ZTR mower. The clevis hitch type ensures compatibility with most models.
Ensure all connections are tight before proceeding to operation.
Operating Instructions
Proper operation ensures optimal performance and longevity of your lawn sweeper.
Brush Height Adjustment
The Twist-Lock Height Adjustment secures the brush height setting in place, even when traveling over uneven terrain. Adjust the brush height based on the type and density of debris you are sweeping:
- For light debris like grass clippings, set the brushes higher.
- For heavier debris like wet leaves or pine needles, lower the brushes to ensure maximum contact.
- The indexed brush height adjustment provides continuous material pickup.
Sweeping Procedure
- Prepare Area: Ensure the lawn is free of large obstacles that could damage the sweeper.
- Attach Sweeper: Securely attach the sweeper to your towing vehicle using the universal hitch pin.
- Adjust Height: Set the brush height using the Twist-Lock mechanism.
- Begin Sweeping: Drive your tractor at a consistent speed, ideally around 3 mph for optimal sweeping. The 5-to-1 brush-to-ground ratio ensures increased brush contact for a clean sweep.
- Empty Hamper: The large 20 cu. ft. hamper capacity allows for extended sweeping. When full, the swinging hamper with a pull cord makes unloading easy, even from the seat of your tractor.
The high brush-to-wheel ratio and easily adjustable brush-to-ground contact minimize skipping and provide maximum performance.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life of your Brinly Lawn Sweeper.
- After Each Use:
- Clear any debris from the brushes and housing.
- Inspect the polyweave fabric hamper for tears or damage.
- Check all nuts, bolts, and fasteners for tightness. Tighten as necessary.
- Seasonal Maintenance:
- Lubricate moving parts, especially the axle and gear mechanisms, as recommended by the manufacturer (refer to original product manual for specific lubrication points).
- Inspect brushes for wear. Replace if bristles are significantly worn down.
- Clean the entire unit thoroughly before storing.
- Storage:
When not in use, simply collapse the sweeper into its upright position for quick and easy storage, minimizing its storage footprint.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sweeper not picking up debris effectively. | Brush height too high; Worn brushes; Sweeping speed too fast/slow. | Lower brush height using Twist-Lock adjustment; Inspect and replace worn brushes; Adjust towing speed to approximately 3 mph. |
| Hamper not emptying completely. | Debris is wet and compacted; Hamper pull cord tangled. | Attempt to sweep when debris is dry; Ensure pull cord is free of obstructions. |
| Excessive skipping or uneven sweep. | Brush height incorrect for terrain; Uneven terrain. | Adjust brush height to minimize skipping; Operate on more level ground if possible. |
