Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts are present and undamaged. Refer to the packing list for a complete inventory.
2. Mounting the Downrigger
The downrigger should be securely mounted to a stable surface on your boat, such as the transom or gunnel. Ensure the mounting location provides clear access for operation and does not interfere with other boat functions.
- Base Installation: Use appropriate marine-grade fasteners (not included) to secure the downrigger base. The base should be mounted on a flat, reinforced surface.
- Orientation: Position the downrigger so the boom extends outwards from the boat, allowing for optimal line clearance.

3. Spooling the Line
The downrigger comes with a pre-spooled line. If re-spooling or replacing the line, ensure it is properly wound onto the spool to prevent tangles and ensure smooth operation.
- Line Type: Use a strong, abrasion-resistant line suitable for downrigger applications.
- Tension: Maintain consistent tension while spooling to ensure even winding.

4. Attaching the Boom End Pulley
The enclosed 24" stainless steel boom end pulley is designed to prevent jump lines and ensure smooth line movement. Attach it securely to the end of the downrigger boom.

5. Attaching the Snap Release
The 18-inch snap release is used to attach your fishing line to the downrigger weight. Securely attach the snap release to the downrigger line.

Operating Instructions
1. Attaching the Downrigger Weight
Attach your desired downrigger weight (not included) to the snap release. Ensure the weight is securely fastened.
2. Deploying the Line and Weight
The Easi-Troll features a One-Hand Clutch Deploy system for controlled and precise bait positioning.
- Engage Clutch: Ensure the clutch is engaged to hold the line.
- Attach Fishing Line: Clip your fishing line to the snap release.
- Release Clutch: Slowly release the clutch to allow the weight to descend. Control the descent speed by adjusting the clutch tension.
- Monitor Depth: Use the integrated line counter to monitor the depth of your downrigger weight.
3. Retrieving the Line and Weight
The downrigger offers a fast, effortless 1.5:1 retrieval speed using the ergonomic crank handle.
- Crank Handle: Turn the ergonomic crank handle clockwise to retrieve the line and weight.
- Consistent Speed: Maintain a consistent cranking speed for smooth retrieval.
- Remove Fishing Line: Once the weight is near the surface, unclip your fishing line from the snap release.
4. Adjusting the Rod Holder
The integrated rod holder can be adjusted to various angles to accommodate different fishing setups and preferences. Loosen the adjustment knob, position the rod holder, and tighten the knob to secure it.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Cannon Easi-Troll Manual Downrigger.
- Rinse After Use: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the entire downrigger with fresh water to remove salt, dirt, and debris.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a marine-grade lubricant to moving parts, such as the crank mechanism, boom pivot points, and pulley.
- Inspect Line: Regularly inspect the downrigger line for fraying, kinks, or damage. Replace the line if any signs of wear are present.
- Check Fasteners: Ensure all mounting fasteners and other screws are tight. Re-tighten as necessary.
- Storage: Store the downrigger in a dry, protected area when not in use.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Line not deploying smoothly | Tangled line on spool, debris in pulley, clutch too tight. | Check for tangles, clear pulley, adjust clutch tension. |
| Line counter inaccurate | Counter gear not engaging, debris. | Ensure counter is pushed fully into its slot for gear engagement. Clean any debris from gears. |
| Difficulty retrieving line | Resistance from weight, internal mechanism issue. | Ensure weight is appropriate for the downrigger. Lubricate moving parts. If problem persists, contact customer support. |
| Parts missing upon unboxing | Manufacturing error or packaging oversight. | Contact Cannon customer service immediately for replacement parts. |
