CREWORKS Manual Wire Stripping Machine WSM-SDS-US

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The CREWORKS WSM-SDS-US Manual Wire Stripping Machine is designed for efficient removal of insulation from scrap wires. This versatile tool supports both manual hand crank operation and automatic operation when connected to a power drill. It is suitable for stripping wires ranging from 0.06 to 0.9 inches (1.5 to 23 mm) in diameter. This manual provides essential information for safe operation, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your wire stripping machine.

2. Safety Instructions

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and heavy-duty gloves, when operating the machine.
  • Keep hands, loose clothing, and long hair clear of the blade and all moving parts during operation.
  • Ensure the machine is securely fastened to a stable workbench or surface before use to prevent movement and ensure safe operation.
  • Never attempt to strip live electrical wires. Ensure all wires are de-energized before processing.
  • Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the machine during operation and storage.
  • Do not force wires into the feed hole. If a wire jams, turn off the machine (or stop cranking) and clear the obstruction carefully.
  • Inspect the blade regularly for sharpness and damage. A dull or damaged blade can lead to inefficient stripping and potential hazards.
  • Use the machine only for its intended purpose of stripping wire insulation.
  • Refer to local safety regulations and guidelines for proper tool usage and waste disposal.

4. Setup

4.1 Mounting the Machine

For stable and safe operation, the wire stripping machine must be securely fastened to a workbench or a sturdy, flat surface. Use the provided M6x45 bolts to mount the machine through the pre-drilled holes in its base.

4.2 Preparing for Drill-Powered Operation (Optional)

The machine can be operated manually with the hand crank or automatically with a power drill. To use a power drill:

  1. Remove the hand crank handle from the spindle using the hex wrench.
  2. Attach a 9mm hex socket (not included) to the spindle.
  3. Connect your power drill to the hex socket to automate the cranking process. Ensure the drill is set to a low speed and appropriate torque.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Blade Height Adjustment

The blade height must be adjusted to match the insulation thickness of the wire. Rotate the adjustment knob located on top of the machine clockwise to lower the blade or counter-clockwise to raise it. The goal is for the blade to score the insulation without cutting into the metal conductor.

5.2 Wire Feeding

The machine features an adjustable feed hole design compatible with wires from 0.06" to 0.9" (1.5 to 23 mm). Select the appropriate opening for your wire's diameter. Feed the insulated wire straight into the chosen feed hole until it engages with the internal rollers.

5.3 Stripping Process

Once the wire is engaged:

  • Manual Operation: Turn the hand crank clockwise at a steady pace. The rollers will pull the wire through, and the blade will score the insulation, allowing it to be peeled off.
  • Drill-Powered Operation: Activate your power drill at a low, consistent speed. The drill will rotate the spindle, pulling the wire through the machine and stripping the insulation. Adjust the drill speed as needed for optimal results.

Collect the stripped insulation and the bare conductor from the rear outlet of the machine.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your wire stripping machine.

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the machine thoroughly. Remove any accumulated wire scraps, insulation debris, and dust from the blade, rollers, and feed mechanism. Use a brush or compressed air.
  • Blade Inspection: Periodically inspect the CrMoV12 steel blade for sharpness and any signs of wear or damage. A dull blade will result in poor stripping performance. Replace the blade if it is dull or damaged.
  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of machine oil to moving parts, such as the spindle and adjustment screw, to ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: Store the machine in a clean, dry environment, away from moisture and corrosive materials.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during operation, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Wire not stripping cleanly or completely.Blade height incorrectly set. Blade is dull or damaged.Adjust the blade height using the adjustment knob. The blade should score the insulation without cutting into the conductor. If the blade is dull, sharpen or replace it.
Wire jams or slips during stripping.Wire not fed straight. Rollers are dirty or worn. Incorrect feed hole selected.Ensure the wire is fed straight into the appropriate feed hole. Clean the rollers to remove debris. Select the correct feed hole for the wire diameter. For drill operation, use a consistent, low speed.
Machine is unstable during operation.Machine not securely mounted.Verify that the machine is securely fastened to a stable workbench using all provided mounting bolts.
Difficulty turning hand crank or drill.Wire jammed. Moving parts lack lubrication.Stop operation and clear any wire jams. Apply machine oil to the spindle and other moving parts.
