Preparing for Non-Contact Measurement:

For non-contact measurements, reflective tape is required. Apply a small piece of reflective tape to the rotating object whose RPM you wish to measure. Ensure the tape is clean and securely adhered to a flat, non-reflective surface on the object.

3. Operating Instructions

Power On/Off:

  • To power on the device, long-press the ON/OFF button.
  • To power off, long-press the ON/OFF button again. The device will also automatically power off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity.

Mode Selection:

The 6236P supports different measurement modes. Short-press the FUNC button to cycle through available modes (e.g., non-contact RPM, contact RPM, surface speed).

Taking Measurements:

  • Non-Contact RPM Measurement:
    1. Ensure the device is in non-contact RPM mode.
    2. Point the laser from the non-contact laser port towards the reflective tape on the rotating object.
    3. Maintain an effective distance of 50mm to 500mm between the tachometer and the reflective tape.
    4. Hold down the TEST button to begin measurement. The RPM reading will appear on the LCD.
    5. Release the TEST button to stop measurement and hold the last reading.
  • Contact RPM Measurement:
    1. Attach the appropriate contact probe to the device.
    2. Ensure the device is in contact RPM mode.
    3. Gently press the contact probe against the center of the rotating shaft or surface.
    4. Hold down the TEST button to begin measurement. The RPM reading will appear on the LCD.
    5. Release the TEST button to stop measurement.

Memory Function:

The device automatically records the maximum, minimum, and last measured values. To view these values:

  • After a measurement, short-press the MEM button to cycle through the stored values (MAX, MIN, LAST).
  • To clear the memory, power cycle the device (turn off and then on again).

4. Maintenance

Cleaning:

  • Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Keep the laser port and contact probes clean and free of dust or debris.

Battery Replacement:

When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery following the steps in the "Setup and Battery Installation" section.

Storage:

Store the tachometer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on:
    • Check if the 9V battery is installed correctly with the right polarity.
    • Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted.
    • Ensure the battery compartment cover is properly closed and not interfering with battery contacts.
  • Inaccurate or no reading in non-contact mode:
    • Ensure reflective tape is securely applied to the rotating object.
    • Verify the distance to the target is within the effective range (50mm-500mm).
    • Check that the laser beam is directly hitting the reflective tape.
    • Clean the laser port if it appears obstructed.
  • Inaccurate or no reading in contact mode:
    • Ensure the correct contact probe is securely attached.
    • Verify the probe is making firm and stable contact with the rotating surface or shaft.
    • Check for any debris or damage on the contact probe.
  • Display is dim or flickering:
    • This usually indicates a low battery. Replace the 9V battery.
