1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the ERICKHILL 600SPMT Infrared Thermometer. This non-contact digital laser thermometer is designed for safe and accurate temperature measurement across a wide range of applications, from cooking and grilling to industrial and automotive use. It features a broad temperature range of -50℃ to 600℃, adjustable emissivity, and a clear LCD display. This model also includes a meat probe for internal temperature measurements.

3. Safety Information

Important Safety Warnings:

  • Laser Safety: This device uses a Class 2 laser. DO NOT stare directly into the laser beam or point it at people or animals. Direct eye exposure can cause permanent eye damage.
  • Not for Human Temperature: This infrared thermometer is designed for industrial and surface temperature measurements. It is NOT suitable for measuring human or animal body temperature. Readings may be inaccurate for biological surfaces.
  • Transparent Objects: The infrared thermometer cannot accurately measure the temperature of transparent objects (e.g., glass, plastic, water) as it will measure the surface temperature of the object behind them.
  • Electrical Safety: Exercise caution when measuring hot surfaces. Do not touch surfaces that may be extremely hot.
  • Battery Safety: Ensure batteries are inserted with correct polarity. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Open the cover.
  3. Insert the two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Initial Power On

Press the trigger to power on the device. The LCD display will illuminate, and the device will be ready for measurement.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Non-Contact Infrared Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target surface.
  2. Press and hold the trigger. The laser pointer will activate to help aim.
  3. The measured temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen within 0.5 seconds.
  4. Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The device will automatically shut off after 12 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery.

5.2 Using the Meat Temperature Probe

For internal temperature measurements of food items like meat, use the included meat probe. The probe provides direct contact temperature readings, complementing the non-contact infrared measurements.

  1. Connect the meat probe to the designated port on the thermometer (if applicable) or use it as a standalone device.
  2. Insert the probe into the food item to the desired depth.
  3. Read the temperature directly from the probe's display or the main unit's display.

5.3 Unit Switching (℃/℉)

To switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉), press the ℃/℉ button on the device. The current unit will be displayed on the LCD.

5.4 Adjustable Emissivity

Emissivity (ε) is the ability of a material to emit thermal energy. Different materials have different emissivities. For accurate readings, adjust the emissivity setting (0.1-1.0) to match the target material. Refer to common emissivity tables for guidance. The device allows for precise measurement of various surface temperatures.

5.5 High/Low Temperature Alarm

The thermometer features a high/low temperature alarm function. You can set specific high and low temperature thresholds. If the measured temperature exceeds the high limit or falls below the low limit, the device will alert you, often with a visual indicator on the display.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the device casing. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the lens clean for accurate readings.
  • Storage: Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
  • Calibration: The device is factory calibrated. If you suspect inaccuracies, contact customer support for potential recalibration services.
