5. Installation and Setup
Proper installation is crucial for the pump's performance and longevity.
Mounting:
- Position the pump in the lowest part of the bilge or desired water collection area.
- Ensure the pump is securely mounted to prevent movement during operation.
- The pump is fully submersible.
Hose Connection:
- Connect a 0.75-inch (19mm) discharge hose to the pump's outlet.
- Secure the hose with a hose clamp to prevent leaks.
- Route the discharge hose upwards and overboard, ensuring a continuous downward slope to prevent backflow.

6. Wiring Instructions
Correct wiring is essential for safe and automatic operation. Always disconnect the power source before wiring.
Wire Identification:
- Black Wire: Connect to the negative (-) terminal of the 12V power source.
- Red Wire: Connect to the positive (+) terminal for Manual Mode operation.
- Blue Wire: Connect to the positive (+) terminal for Automatic Mode operation.

Figure 5: Wiring Details. This close-up shows the black (negative), red (manual positive), and blue (automatic positive) wires emerging from the pump.
Wiring Diagram:
Before wiring, open the filter and remove the foam block located under the float mechanism.

Figure 6: Wiring Diagram. This diagram illustrates connections for both Automatic Mode (Black to Battery -, Blue to Battery +) and Manual Mode (Black to Battery -, Red to Battery +). Note: The diagram shows a "Brown" wire for manual mode, but the product description and other images indicate "Red" for manual positive connection. Please follow the Red wire for manual positive connection as per the product description and Figure 5.
- Automatic Mode: Connect the Black wire to the battery's negative terminal. Connect the Blue wire to the battery's positive terminal. The pump will activate automatically when the water level rises.
- Manual Mode: Connect the Black wire to the battery's negative terminal. Connect the Red wire to the battery's positive terminal. The pump will operate continuously as long as power is supplied.
- It is recommended to install a fuse (not included) in the positive line for circuit protection.
7. Operating Instructions
The OurLeeme Bilge Pump offers both automatic and manual operation modes.
Automatic Operation:
- When wired for Automatic Mode (Blue wire to positive), the pump's internal float switch will detect rising water levels.
- The pump will automatically activate when the water reaches a critical level.
- Once the water level drops below the sensor, the pump will automatically shut off.

Figure 7: Automatic Operation Cycle. This sequence illustrates how the pump activates when water reaches a critical level and deactivates once the water is pumped out and the level drops.
Manual Operation:
- When wired for Manual Mode (Red wire to positive), the pump will run continuously as long as power is supplied.
- This mode is suitable for situations requiring continuous pumping or for testing the pump.
- Always monitor the pump during manual operation to prevent dry running for extended periods, although the pump is designed not to burn out when dry.
8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your bilge pump.
- Inspect Regularly: Periodically check the pump for debris, such as leaves, hair, or other foreign objects that may obstruct the intake or impeller.
- Clean Intake Screen: The pump features a removable filter/intake screen. Clean it regularly to ensure unrestricted water flow.
- Check Wiring: Inspect all wiring connections for corrosion, fraying, or loose terminals. Ensure connections are secure and waterproof.
- Test Operation: Regularly test the pump's automatic and manual functions to confirm it is operating correctly. For automatic mode, introduce water into the bilge to trigger the float switch.
- Winterization: In freezing conditions, ensure the pump is drained and protected from ice formation, or remove it for storage.
9. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your bilge pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
