4. Setup and Installation
The Emporia Vue 3 installs within the circuit panel of most homes. It supports Single phase, Single-split phase, and 2-wire systems. For 3-wire systems or 3-phase, 4-wire Wye systems with earthed (TN or TT) neutral (no-Delta), an additional 200A sensor is required (sold separately).
4.1 Pre-installation Checklist
- Ensure you have a 2.4 GHz WiFi network with an internet connection available.
- Download the Emporia Energy App on your iPhone or Android device.
- Gather necessary tools: screwdriver, voltage tester, wire strippers (if needed).
- Familiarize yourself with your home's electrical panel layout.
4.2 Installation Steps
- Turn off Main Power: Locate your main circuit breaker and turn off the power to your entire home. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Open Electrical Panel: Carefully open the cover of your electrical panel.
- Install Main CTs: Clamp the two main 200A Current Transformers around the main service wires coming into your electrical panel. Ensure the arrows on the CTs point towards the load (away from the utility meter). Connect the CT wires to the designated ports on the Vue 3 unit.
- Install Branch CTs (Optional): For individual circuit monitoring, clamp the 50A branch CTs around the hot wires of the circuits you wish to monitor. Connect these CT wires to the remaining ports on the Vue 3 unit. New screw terminals allow for trimming CT wires to reduce panel clutter.
- Connect Power to Vue 3: Connect the wire harness from the Vue 3 unit to a 120V circuit breaker (typically a single-pole 15A or 20A breaker) and the neutral bar in your panel.
- Mount Vue 3 and Antenna: Securely mount the Vue 3 unit inside the panel or in an adjacent enclosure. Attach the WiFi antenna assembly, positioning it for optimal signal reception.
- Close Panel and Restore Power: Carefully replace the electrical panel cover. Turn the main power supply back on.
- App Configuration: Open the Emporia Energy App and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Vue 3 to your WiFi network and configure your circuits.

5. Operating the Emporia Vue 3
The Emporia Vue 3 operates primarily through the Emporia Energy mobile application, available for iPhone and Android devices, and a web interface.
5.1 Real-time Energy Monitoring
Once installed and configured, the Vue 3 provides real-time energy data. This data is accurate to within ±2%. One-second data is available in the app when actively open and is retained for 3 hours. Minute and hour data are retained in the cloud, with 1-minute data retained for 7 days and 1-hour data retained indefinitely. Cloud data can be exported at any time through the app.

5.2 Energy Management Features
- Automated Scheduling: Configure settings within the app to automate energy management based on time-of-use rates or other preferences.
- Peak Demand Management: The system can help manage peak demand to reduce costs.
- Solar / Net Metering: Monitor solar production and net metering to understand energy generation versus consumption.
- Customizable Alerts: Receive notifications for various events, such as approaching monthly peak energy use, appliances left on, or appliances consuming more energy than expected.

6. Maintenance
The Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor is designed for minimal maintenance. Regular checks can ensure optimal performance.
- Software Updates: Ensure your Emporia Energy App is always updated to the latest version for new features and performance improvements. The Vue 3 firmware updates are typically managed automatically via the app.
- Physical Inspection: Periodically inspect the device and its connections within the electrical panel for any signs of damage or loose wiring. This should only be done by a qualified individual with the main power turned off.
- Cleaning: If necessary, gently wipe the exterior of the Vue 3 unit with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
- WiFi Connection: Ensure a stable 2.4 GHz WiFi connection for continuous data monitoring. If data drops occur, check your router and network settings.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor.
7.1 No Data in App / Device Offline
- Check WiFi: Ensure your 2.4 GHz WiFi network is active and the internet connection is stable.
- Antenna Placement: Verify the WiFi antenna is securely connected and positioned for optimal signal. Consider relocating the antenna outside the panel if signal strength is an issue.
- Power to Vue 3: Confirm the circuit breaker supplying power to the Vue 3 is ON.
- Restart Device: Turn off the circuit breaker supplying power to the Vue 3 for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
7.2 Inaccurate Readings
- CT Orientation: Ensure the arrows on all Current Transformers (CTs) are pointing in the correct direction (towards the load).
- CT Connections: Verify all CT wires are securely plugged into the correct ports on the Vue 3 unit.
- App Configuration: Double-check that the circuit configurations in the Emporia Energy App match your physical wiring. For 220V circuits using one CT, ensure the "double" usage measurement option is correctly applied in the app.
7.3 App Issues
- Update App: Make sure your Emporia Energy App is updated to the latest version.
- Clear Cache/Reinstall: If the app is unresponsive, try clearing its cache or reinstalling it.
- Internet Connection: Ensure your mobile device has a stable internet connection.
