2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before assembling or using this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage or personal injury.

  • Ensure the rain barrel is placed on a flat, stable surface to prevent tipping, especially when full.
  • Keep children and pets away from the rain barrel, particularly when it is filling or full, to prevent drowning hazards.
  • Do not drink collected rainwater without proper purification. It is intended for irrigation and non-potable uses only.
  • Empty and store the rain barrel indoors or in a protected area during freezing temperatures to prevent damage to the PVC material and fittings.
  • Regularly inspect the barrel for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks. Do not use if damaged.
  • Ensure the overflow hose is directed away from building foundations to prevent water damage.

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble and set up your VEVOR Collapsible Rain Barrel.

  1. Choose a Location: Select a flat, level surface directly beneath a downspout. Ensure the area can support the weight of a full barrel (approximately 440 lbs for 53 gallons).
  2. Unpack and Unfold: Carefully remove the rain barrel from its packaging and unfold the PVC body.
  3. Insert Support Rods: Locate the sleeves around the perimeter of the barrel. Insert the support rods into these sleeves to give the barrel its cylindrical shape. Ensure they are fully seated.
  4. Install Faucet and Valve:
    • Attach the faucet to the designated opening on the side of the barrel, ensuring the rubber washer is properly seated to prevent leaks. Tighten securely.
    • Attach the 3/4" shut-off valve to the lower opening near the base of the barrel. Use PTFE tape on the threads for a watertight seal and ensure the rubber washer is in place.
  5. Install Overflow Spout: Attach the overflow spout to the upper opening on the side of the barrel. Direct the overflow hose away from your home's foundation.
  6. Position Under Downspout: Place the assembled rain barrel directly under your downspout. The top mesh filter should be positioned to catch the rainwater flow.

5. Operation

Using your VEVOR Rain Barrel is straightforward once assembled.

  1. Collecting Rainwater: When it rains, water will flow from your downspout onto the top mesh filter of the barrel. This mesh prevents leaves, debris, and insects from entering the stored water.
  2. Monitoring Water Level: The barrel features clear markings for both gallons and liters, allowing you to easily monitor the water level.
  3. Dispensing Water:
    • Use the faucet to fill watering cans or buckets for manual irrigation.
    • Connect a standard garden hose to the 3/4" shut-off valve for larger watering tasks, such as irrigating your garden or washing a car.
  4. Overflow Function: If the rain barrel becomes full, excess water will exit through the overflow spout, preventing the barrel from overfilling and potentially damaging your property.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your rain barrel.

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically check and clean the top mesh filter to remove accumulated leaves and debris. This prevents clogging and ensures efficient water collection.
  • Internal Cleaning: Every few months, or as needed, empty the barrel and rinse its interior with clean water to prevent algae buildup. A mild soap solution can be used, followed by thorough rinsing.
  • Leak Inspection: Regularly inspect all connections (faucet, valve, overflow) for leaks. Tighten connections or replace rubber washers if necessary.
  • Winter Storage: Before the first freeze, completely drain the rain barrel. Disconnect all fittings and clean the barrel. Collapse the barrel by removing the support rods and store it in a dry, protected area (e.g., garage or shed) to prevent freeze damage.
