Setup and Fit

1. Sizing and Initial Fit

Proper fit is crucial for safety and comfort. The Advant X Carbon helmet is designed to fit an intermediate oval head shape. If you are between sizes or have a round head shape, consider sizing up for a better fit.

Figure 3: Sizing information for head circumference.

  1. Measure Your Head: Use a flexible measuring tape to wrap around your head, just above your eyebrows. If using a string, mark the point where it overlaps, then measure with a ruler.
  2. Try On the Helmet: The helmet should feel snug all around your head, with no pressure points. The cheek pads should press firmly against your cheeks.
  3. Check for Movement: With the chin strap fastened, try to rotate the helmet from side to side and front to back. Your skin should move with the helmet, indicating a secure fit.

2. Chin Strap Adjustment

The Micrometric quick release chin strap ensures a secure and easily adjustable fit.

  1. Insert the tab into the buckle until it clicks securely.
  2. Pull the strap to tighten until it is snug under your chin, without causing discomfort.
  3. To release, pull the red tab to disengage the buckle.

3. Emergency Release Cheek Pad System

In case of an emergency, the cheek pads can be quickly removed by pulling the red tabs located at the bottom of the pads. This allows for easier and safer helmet removal by trained personnel.

Operation

1. Modular System (180-degree Flip)

The Advant X features a convenient 180-degree modular system, allowing the chin bar to flip completely to the rear of the helmet, converting it from a full-face to an open-face helmet. This provides flexibility for different riding environments.

To operate: Locate the release button on the chin bar, press it, and pivot the chin bar upwards and backwards until it locks into place at the rear of the helmet. To return to full-face mode, reverse the process, ensuring the chin bar securely latches.

2. Face Shield and Sun Shield

The clear "A Class" Polycarbonate face shield offers excellent optical clarity and is scratch and UV resistant. It features a quick-release mechanism for easy removal and replacement. A Pinlock insert is included to prevent fogging.

The built-in sun shield can be deployed or retracted using a slider mechanism, typically located on the side of the helmet, to adapt to changing light conditions without needing to change the main face shield.

Maintenance and Care

1. Cleaning the Helmet Shell and Visor

  • Use a soft, damp cloth with mild soap and water to clean the exterior of the helmet.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or petroleum-based products, as these can damage the shell and finish.
  • For the face shield and sun shield, use only water and a microfiber cloth. Specialized helmet visor cleaners are also recommended.
  • Allow the helmet to air dry completely before storage or use.

2. Removable Liner Care

The technical fabric liner is removable for easy cleaning, helping to maintain hygiene and comfort.

  1. Carefully remove the liner and cheek pads from the helmet.
  2. Hand wash the liner and pads with mild soap and cool water. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
  3. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before reinserting into the helmet.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common concerns and provides solutions for optimal helmet performance.

  • Fogging Visor: Ensure the Pinlock insert is correctly installed. If fogging persists, check for proper ventilation or consider anti-fog treatments.
  • Loose Fit: If the helmet feels loose after extended use, the padding may have compressed. Consider replacing the cheek pads with thicker ones or consulting an authorized dealer for fit adjustment.
  • Excessive Noise: Check that all vents are properly closed if not needed, and ensure the face shield is fully sealed. A proper fit is essential to minimize wind noise.
  • Chin Bar Not Latching: Ensure no debris is obstructing the latching mechanism. Apply gentle, even pressure until it clicks securely into place.
