1. Overview

The Sony ZV-1 II is a compact vlog camera designed for content creators and vloggers. It features a large 1-inch sensor, an ultra-wide 18-50mm zoom lens, and a range of easy-to-use functions tailored for online video production. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your camera.

2. What's in the Box

Upon unboxing your Sony ZV-1 II, you should find the following components:

The camera is supplied with a rechargeable battery and a wind screen for improved audio quality. Please refer to the included documentation for detailed information on each item.

3. Setup

3.1 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/memory card cover located at the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the supplied NP-BX1 rechargeable battery pack with the correct orientation until it locks into place.
  3. Insert a compatible SDHC memory card (V30 speed class recommended for 4K video) with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks.
  4. Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

3.2 Attaching the Wind Screen

To reduce wind noise during outdoor recordings, attach the supplied wind screen:

  1. Locate the Multi Interface Shoe on top of the camera.
  2. Slide the wind screen adapter into the Multi Interface Shoe until it clicks.
  3. Attach the furry wind screen to the adapter.

3.3 Initial Power On and Basic Settings

Press the ON/OFF button to power on the camera. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the date, time, and language. Ensure the camera is fully charged before first use.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: Use the ON/OFF button on the top panel.
  • Mode Switch: Toggle between Still Image, Movie, and S&Q (Slow & Quick Motion) modes using the dedicated switch next to the ON/OFF button.
  • Shutter Button: Press halfway to focus, fully to capture a photo or start/stop video recording.
  • Zoom Lever: Use the T/W lever around the shutter button to zoom in (T) or out (W). The camera features an ultra-wide 18-50mm zoom lens.

4.2 Display and Navigation

The camera is equipped with a 3-inch articulating LCD touchscreen. This vari-angle screen can be flipped out and rotated for easy self-recording or shooting from various angles.

  • Touch Operation: Tap the screen to select menu items, adjust settings, or set focus.
  • Menu Button: Press the MENU button to access detailed camera settings. Navigate using the control wheel or touchscreen.

4.3 Focusing

The ZV-1 II features advanced autofocus capabilities:

  • Real-time Autofocus Tracking: The camera automatically tracks subjects, keeping them in sharp focus even when they move.
  • Eye-AF: Specifically designed to detect and focus on human or animal eyes, ensuring sharp portraits and vlogs.

4.4 Audio Recording

Achieve clear audio with the camera's integrated microphone system:

  • Intelligent 3-Capsule Mic: This built-in microphone can switch its directivity from All Direction to Front when a human face is recognized in the frame.
  • Microphone Directivity: Manually switch between Front, All Direction, and Rear for optimal audio capture depending on your shooting scenario.
  • Wind Screen: Attach the supplied wind screen to significantly reduce wind noise during outdoor recordings.

4.5 Video Recording

The ZV-1 II is optimized for high-quality video content:

  • 4K Video: Record stunning 4K (2160p) video for professional-looking results.
  • Ultra-wide 18-50mm Lens: Capture a wider field of view, ideal for group selfies, landscapes, and dynamic vlogs.
  • Bokeh Switch: Easily switch between a blurred background (bokeh) and a clear background with a single button press.

4.6 Connectivity

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Lens: Use a soft brush to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth.
  • Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using chemical cleaners.
  • Screen: Use a microfiber cloth specifically designed for electronics screens.

5.2 Battery Care

5.3 Storage

  • Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
  • Cannot record video: Check if a memory card is inserted and has sufficient free space. Verify the camera is in Movie or S&Q mode.
  • Poor audio quality: Ensure the wind screen is properly attached in windy conditions. Check microphone directivity settings.
  • Blurry images: Verify autofocus settings (Real-time Tracking, Eye-AF) are appropriate for your subject. Ensure sufficient lighting.
