2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety warnings and operating instructions before using this device. Failure to do so may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Battery Safety: Use only the specified battery type (2 x AAA). Do not mix old and new batteries. Ensure correct polarity. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
  • Probe Safety: The pin-type probes are sharp. Handle with care to avoid injury. Keep the protective cap on when not in use.
  • Electrical Hazards: Do not use the device on live electrical circuits or materials that may contain live wires.
  • Environmental Conditions: Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct sunlight. Avoid using in explosive atmospheres.
  • Maintenance: Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

The NDI KC-316MIX requires 2 x AAA batteries (included) for operation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover at the bottom of the device handle.
  2. Open the cover by sliding it downwards or unlatching it as indicated.
  3. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as marked inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2. Removing Probe Protection Sleeve (for Pin-Type Mode)

When using the pin-type measurement mode, the protective sleeve must be removed from the probes.

  1. Gently pull the gray protective cap upwards to expose the metal pins.
  2. Carefully remove the small black protective sleeves from each metal pin. Store these sleeves in a safe place to prevent loss.
  3. After use, replace the protective sleeves and cap to prevent damage to the probes and accidental injury.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Power On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the Power button (red button) for approximately 1 second. The LCD screen will illuminate. To power off, press and hold the Power button again until the screen turns off. The device features an auto power-off function to conserve battery life.

4.2. Understanding the LCD Display

The large LCD screen displays various readings and indicators:

  • Moisture Level: Shown as a percentage (%).
  • Mildew Index: A bar graph indicating the risk of mildew (Dry, Slight Humidity, Excessive Humidity).
  • Material Mode: Indicates the currently selected material (e.g., WOOD, BLDG, DRY WALL, CEMENT BOARD, SOFT WOOD, HARD WOOD).
  • Ambient Temperature: Displays in °C or °F.
  • Relative Humidity (RH): Displays as a percentage (%).
  • Battery Indicator: Shows remaining battery life.
  • Hold Function: Indicated by a lock symbol when active.

4.3. Switching Measurement Modes

Press the MODE button to cycle through the available material types for measurement:

  • Dry Wall Mode
  • Cement Board Mode
  • Soft Wood Mode
  • Hard Wood Mode
  • Building Material Mode (for pin-type)
  • Wood Mode (for pin-type)

4.4. Non-invasive (Pinless) Measurement

This mode allows for quick and non-damaging moisture detection on surfaces.

  1. Ensure the protective cap is closed over the pins (if using pinless mode).
  2. Select the appropriate material mode using the MODE button.
  3. Place the sensor pad (at the top of the device) flat against the surface of the material you wish to measure. The device's unique angle sensor design ensures partial contact, protecting the object from scratches.
  4. The moisture reading will be displayed instantly on the LCD screen.

4.5. Pin-Type Measurement

This mode provides specific numerical readings for pinpointed spots.

  1. Remove the protective cap and the small protective sleeves from the metal pins (refer to Section 3.2).
  2. Select either WOOD or BLDG (Building Material) mode using the MODE button.
  3. Carefully insert the metal pins into the material you wish to measure. Ensure good contact.
  4. The moisture reading will be displayed instantly on the LCD screen.

4.6. Data Hold Function

Press the HOLD button (yellow button) to freeze the current reading on the display. This is useful for taking readings in hard-to-reach areas. Press the HOLD button again to release the reading.

4.7. Buzzer On/Off and Temperature Unit Switch

The SET button allows you to configure certain settings:

  • Buzzer: Press the SET button briefly to toggle the audible buzzer on or off. The buzzer provides an alert when high moisture levels are detected.
  • Temperature Unit: Press and hold the SET button to switch the ambient temperature display between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the protective cap is on the pins.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
  • Probe Care: Keep the metal pins clean and free from debris. If they become dull or damaged, they may affect accuracy.

6. Troubleshooting
