4. Product Overview
4.1 Front Panel
The front panel of the DMS-107 features seven RJ45 Ethernet ports and LED indicators for power and link/activity status.

LED Indicators:
- Power LED (Green): Indicates the device is powered on.
- Link/Act LEDs (Green/Blue):
- Green: Indicates a 10/100/1000 Mbps connection.
- Blue: Indicates a 2.5 Gigabit connection (for ports 6 and 7).
- Blinking: Indicates network activity.
Ethernet Ports:
- Ports 1-5: 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports.
- Ports 6-7: 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 ports, supporting 10/100/1000 Mbps and 2.5 Gigabit speeds.
4.2 Rear Panel
The rear panel includes the power input and a grounding point.

- 12V === 0.5A Power Input: Connect the provided power adapter here.
- Grounding Point: For optional grounding connection.
5. Setup
The DMS-107 is a plug-and-play device, requiring no software installation or configuration. Follow these steps for quick setup:
- Placement: Place the switch on a flat, stable surface in a well-ventilated area. Ensure it is away from direct heat sources or excessive moisture.
- Connect Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the power input on the rear panel of the DMS-107 and then plug the adapter into a power outlet. The Power LED on the front panel will illuminate green.
- Connect Devices: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, gaming consoles, NAS, Wi-Fi 6 routers) to any of the RJ45 Ethernet ports using standard Ethernet cables (Cat5e or higher).
For optimal performance with 2.5 Gigabit devices, use ports 6 and 7. The corresponding Link/Act LED will light up (green for 10/100/1000 Mbps, blue for 2.5 Gigabit) to indicate a successful connection.
- Verify Connection: Once devices are connected, check the Link/Act LEDs. A solid green or blue light indicates a valid link, and a blinking light indicates data activity.

6. Operating the Switch
The D-Link DMS-107 is an unmanaged switch, meaning it operates automatically without requiring user configuration. Simply connect your devices, and the switch will handle data traffic efficiently.
6.1 Auto-Negotiation
The switch automatically detects the link speed of connected devices (10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1000 Mbps, or 2.5 Gigabit) and adjusts accordingly for optimal performance and compatibility.
6.2 Quality of Service (QoS)
The DMS-107 supports IEEE 802.1p QoS, which allows the switch to prioritize network traffic based on its importance. This ensures that time-sensitive applications like online gaming or video streaming receive preferential bandwidth, minimizing lag and buffering.
6.3 Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE)
The switch incorporates IEEE 802.3az Energy-Efficient Ethernet technology, which reduces power consumption during periods of low network activity. This feature helps conserve energy and lower operating costs without affecting performance.

7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the sides of the switch are not blocked to allow for proper heat dissipation.
- Firmware: As an unmanaged switch, the DMS-107 typically does not require firmware updates.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No Power LED | Power adapter not connected or faulty. | Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet. Try a different outlet or adapter if available. |
| No Link/Act LED for a connected device | Incorrect cable, faulty cable, or device not powered on/configured. | Check the Ethernet cable connection at both ends. Ensure the cable is Cat5e or higher. Verify the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly. Try a different port or cable. |
| Slow network speeds | Cable quality, device capability, or network congestion. | Ensure you are using Cat5e or Cat6 cables for Gigabit speeds, and Cat6 or Cat6a for 2.5 Gigabit speeds. Verify that connected devices support the desired speeds. Reduce network traffic if possible. |
| Intermittent connection | Loose cable connection, faulty cable, or interference. | Reseat all Ethernet cables. Replace any suspected faulty cables. Ensure the switch is not near strong electromagnetic interference sources. |
