2. Important Safety Information
WARNING: Read and understand all instructions before using this appliance. Failure to follow instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always disconnect power before cleaning or performing maintenance.
- Do not operate any fireplace with a damaged cord or plug, or if the heater has malfunctioned, been dropped, or damaged in any manner.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Arrange cord away from traffic area and where it will not be tripped over.
- To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
- Always use properly grounded, fused, and polarized outlets.
- This appliance is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and keep them away from the sides and rear.
- Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the fireplace is left operating and unattended.
3. Setup and Installation
The Modern Ember Aerus ME-SL42 electric fireplace offers two primary installation methods: wall-mounted or recessed in-wall. Choose the method that best suits your space and follow the detailed instructions below.
3.1 Unpacking and Preparation
- Carefully remove the fireplace from its packaging.
- Inspect the unit for any damage. If damage is found, do not install and contact customer support.
- Ensure all included components are present: Electric Fireplace, Multi-Function Remote, Premium Media Kit (Driftwood & Crystal Embers).
- Remove the glass frame by unscrewing the retaining screws.

3.2 Wall-Mount Installation
- Locate the mounting bracket on the back of the fireplace. Remove it by unscrewing the fasteners.
- Choose a suitable wall location. Ensure it is a sturdy wall capable of supporting the fireplace's weight.
- Mark the desired height and level position for the mounting bracket on the wall.
- Securely attach the mounting bracket to the wall using appropriate hardware (not specified, assume standard wall anchors/screws for studs).
- Carefully lift the fireplace and hook it onto the wall-mounted bracket. Ensure it is securely seated.
- Re-attach the retaining screws to fix the fireplace to the bracket.

3.3 Recessed In-Wall Installation
- Construct a suitable frame within your wall. The fireplace is designed to fit perfectly into a 2"x6" wall frame. Refer to the included mounting guide for precise dimensions.
- Ensure the framed opening is level and plumb.
- Slide the fireplace into the framed opening.
- Secure the fireplace to the wall studs using the provided screws through the designated mounting holes on the side flanges of the unit.

3.4 Media Kit Installation
- Once the fireplace is securely installed, arrange the included driftwood logs and crystal embers onto the ember bed. You can customize the arrangement to your preference.

3.5 Electrical Connection
- The fireplace offers two wiring options:
- Plug-in: Use the included plug kit to connect to a standard 120V outlet.
- Hardwire: For professional in-wall installations, the unit can be hardwired. Caution: Hardwire installation should only be performed by a qualified electrician to ensure safety and compliance with local electrical codes.
4. Operating Instructions
Your Aerus ME-SL42 electric fireplace can be controlled via the included multi-function remote, the integrated digital touch panel, or through a Wi-Fi enabled smart home assistant like Alexa.
4.1 Remote Control Operation
The included remote control allows for convenient adjustment of all fireplace functions from a distance.

- Flame Colors: Cycle through 5 available flame colors.
- Flame Brightness: Select from 5 brightness levels for the flame effect.
- Flame Speed: Choose from 3 flame speeds (Mild, Moderate, Roaring).
- Ember Bed Colors: Select from 10 available ember bed colors.
- Timer: Set a timer for automatic shut-off, ranging from 30 minutes to 9 hours.

4.2 Digital Touch Panel Operation

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your electric fireplace.
- Cleaning:
- Always unplug the fireplace before cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sprays.
- Gently clean the glass panel with a soft cloth and glass cleaner.
- Periodically vacuum the air intake and exhaust vents to prevent dust buildup.
- Storage: If storing the fireplace for an extended period, ensure it is clean, dry, and stored in a cool, dry place.
6. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your fireplace, consult the following common troubleshooting steps:
