1. Introduction

The Radtel RT-850 is a versatile dual-band two-way radio designed for reliable communication across various frequency ranges. It supports 144-148MHz and 420-450MHz for transmit/receive operations, and offers a full band scanning receiver from 136-660MHz, including 68-108MHz (FM Rx) and 108-136MHz (Air Band Receiving at AM Mode).

Key features include a hidden LCD display, automatic frequency matching, USB Type-C charging, wireless frequency copying, and 128 memory channels. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your RT-850 radio.

2. Setup

2.1 Unboxing and Components

Before use, verify that all components are present in the package:

  • 1x Radtel RT-850 Dual Band Radio
  • 1x Lithium-Ion Battery Pack
  • 1x Charging Cradle
  • 1x Antenna
  • 1x Belt Clip
  • 1x User Manual (this document)

2.2 Battery Installation and Charging

The RT-850 uses a 7.4V 1100mAh Lithium-Ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before initial use.

  1. To install the battery, align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place.
  2. To charge, place the radio with the installed battery into the charging cradle.
  3. Connect the USB Type-C cable to the charging cradle and then to a compatible power source.
  4. The charging indicator on the radio or cradle will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes several hours.

2.3 Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise onto the connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Power On/Off and Volume

  • To power on, rotate the power/volume knob clockwise until you hear a click.
  • To power off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
  • Adjust the volume by rotating the same knob.

3.2 Display and Navigation

The RT-850 features a 1.77-inch hidden LCD display. Use the keypad and menu button to navigate through functions and settings.

3.3 Transmitting and Receiving

  • To transmit, press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.

  • Wireless Copy Frequency: Allows cloning of frequency settings from another radio.
  • PC Programming: Connect the radio to a computer for advanced programming of channels and settings using dedicated software.
  • DTMF Encoding/Decoding: Supports Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency signaling.
  • CTCSS/DCS: Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System / Digital Coded Squelch for selective calling.
  • Frequency Lock: Prevents accidental changes to the current frequency or channel.
  • FM Standby Mode: Allows listening to FM radio broadcasts while monitoring for activity on the primary frequency.
  • Busy Channel Lockout (BCLO): Prevents transmission on an occupied channel.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Care

  • Always use the original Radtel battery and charging cradle.
  • Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery to prolong its lifespan.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Wipe the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the radio is dry before use.

5. Troubleshooting
