Cartell CW-SYS Dual Purpose System Instruction Manual

Model: CW-SYS

1. System Overview

The Cartell CW-SYS Dual Purpose System is a wireless driveway system designed to enhance security and provide convenient gate operation. It integrates with various security or home automation systems and automatically opens compatible powered gate operators for hands-free exit.

This system utilizes advanced magnetometer technology with adjustable sensitivity to accurately detect moving steel objects, ensuring reliable activation while minimizing false alarms. The expandable two-way radio operates on a dependable frequency, ensuring the signal reliably reaches the receiver.

2. Setup and Installation

The CW-SYS system includes a sensor, an integrator, two CR123 batteries, a terminal block screwdriver, and two auger screws for ground installation. Installation is designed to be straightforward.

2.2 Battery Installation

To install the batteries in the sensor unit, carefully remove the four screws securing the sensor's cover. Insert the two CR123 batteries into their designated slots, observing correct polarity. Replace the cover and secure the screws.

2.3 Integrator Wiring

The integrator component connects to your existing gate operator or security/home automation system. Refer to the specific manual for your automatic gate operator or security system to determine the correct wiring configuration. The provided terminal block screwdriver can assist with these connections.

2.4 Sensor Placement

The sensor should be placed within a 12-foot radius of where vehicles will drive to ensure proper detection. For optimal performance, position the sensor in a location where a vehicle will drive past it, rather than stopping directly over it. The system requires movement to trigger effectively. The sensor communicates wirelessly with the integrator, with a range of up to 1000 feet from your operator.

3. Operating Instructions

The Cartell CW-SYS system operates by detecting changes in the Earth's magnetic field caused by moving steel objects, such as vehicles. This advanced magnetometer technology ensures accurate detection and minimizes false alarms.

3.1 Vehicle Detection

When a vehicle enters or leaves the driveway and passes the sensor at a speed of at least five MPH, the system senses the magnetic disturbance.

3.2 Signal Transmission

Once a car is detected, a signal is sent wirelessly from the sensor to the integrator. This signal can be transmitted to an existing security/home automation system, a Cartell control unit, or directly to a gate operator for hands-free exit.

3.3 Alert Activation and Gate Operation

Upon receiving the signal, the Cartell system can activate audible alerts, trigger cameras and lights, integrate with components of a security/home automation system, or automatically open a driveway gate for free exit.

3.4 False Alarm Prevention

The system is designed to prevent false alarms. It only detects moving steel and will not be triggered by people, animals, or blowing leaves. This ensures that if your Cartell system is activated, a vehicle is present in your driveway.

3.5 Reliable Alerts

Whether used for smart home integration, lighting activation, alarms, or gate opening, the system provides reliable alerts and functionality.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

The sensor unit is powered by two CR123 batteries, which offer a long operational life, typically over two years with regular use. When battery replacement is needed, follow the steps outlined in Section 2.2 for battery installation.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Detection Issues

If the system is not consistently detecting vehicles, ensure that the sensor is placed in a location where vehicles are in motion when passing it. The system relies on movement within its magnetic field for activation. Verify that the sensor is within the 12-foot detection radius of the vehicle's path and within 1000 feet of the integrator.

5.2 False Activations

The Cartell CW-SYS is designed to ignore non-metallic objects and small animals. If you experience false activations, re-verify the sensor's placement to ensure it is not being affected by large, moving metallic objects other than intended vehicles.
