Setup
Step 1: Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully unpack the NVR and all accessories. Verify that all components listed in the "What's in the Box" section are present and undamaged. Report any missing or damaged items to your supplier immediately.
Step 2: Hard Drive Installation (Optional)
If a hard drive is not pre-installed, you will need to install one for video recording. Refer to the NVR's internal chassis for mounting instructions. Ensure the hard drive is securely connected to the SATA power and data cables. After installation, the hard drive may need to be initialized through the NVR's system settings.
Step 3: Connecting Peripherals
- Connect the included USEWELL HDMI cable from the NVR's HDMI output port to your monitor or TV.
- Connect a USB mouse to one of the NVR's USB ports for navigation.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from the NVR's LAN port to your network router or switch.
- Connect the power adapter to the NVR's power input and then to a power outlet.
Step 4: Initial Power On and Configuration
The NVR will power on automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts for initial setup, which typically includes setting up an administrator password, configuring network settings (DHCP or static IP), and setting the correct date and time zone.
Step 5: Adding IP Cameras
Access the NVR's interface via the connected monitor. Navigate to the camera management section to search for and add your IP network CCTV cameras. Ensure all cameras are powered on and connected to the same network as the NVR. The NVR supports various protocols for adding cameras, including ONVIF.

For remote access and management, download the Hik-Connect application on your mobile device (available on App Store and Google Play) or use the client software on your computer. This allows you to view live feeds, play back recordings, and receive alerts from your NVR system.
Operating
Live View
After logging in, the NVR will display the live view of connected cameras. Use the USB mouse to select different camera views, adjust display layouts, or access individual camera settings.
Recording
The NVR is typically configured for continuous recording by default. You can adjust recording schedules, set up motion detection recording, or configure alarm-triggered recording in the recording configuration menu. Ensure your hard drive has sufficient space.
Playback
To review recorded footage, navigate to the playback menu. Select the desired camera, date, and time range to view recordings. The timeline allows for easy navigation through recorded events.
Network Access
The NVR supports remote access via the Hik-Connect service or a web browser. Ensure proper network configuration, including port forwarding if necessary, to access the NVR from outside your local network. Consult your network administrator for advanced network settings.
Maintenance
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check the official HIKVISION website for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Follow the provided instructions carefully during the update process.
- System Backup: Periodically back up important configuration files and critical video footage to an external storage device.
- Cleaning: Keep the NVR free from dust and debris. Ensure proper ventilation by keeping vents clear to prevent overheating, which can affect performance and lifespan.
- Hard Drive Health: Monitor the health of the installed hard drive through the NVR's system information or HDD management menu. Replace failing drives promptly to avoid data loss.
Troubleshooting
No Video Output on Monitor
- Check HDMI/VGA cable connections between the NVR and the monitor.
- Ensure the monitor is powered on and set to the correct input source (HDMI/VGA).
- Verify the NVR's power status indicators.
IP Cameras Not Connecting
- Ensure IP cameras are powered on and properly connected to the network.
- Verify network settings on both the NVR and the cameras (IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways).
- Check for IP address conflicts on your network.
- Confirm that the camera's username and password are correct in the NVR's camera management settings.
No Recording
- Confirm that a hard drive is installed and has been initialized by the NVR.
- Check recording schedules and settings to ensure they are correctly configured.
- Verify hard drive health and remaining storage space. A full or failing hard drive will prevent recording.
