4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your FSP Dagger Pro 850W SFX Power Supply into your computer system.

4.1. Physical Installation

  1. Prepare your system: Ensure your computer is powered off and the power cord is disconnected from the wall outlet. Open your computer case to access the power supply mounting area.
  2. Remove old PSU (if applicable): If replacing an existing power supply, disconnect all cables from components and remove the old PSU from the case.
  3. Mount the new PSU: Carefully place the FSP Dagger Pro 850W into the SFX power supply bay of your case. Secure it using the provided mounting screws. Ensure the fan is oriented correctly for optimal airflow, typically facing inwards or downwards depending on case design.

  1. Motherboard Power (24-pin): Connect the 24-pin ATX cable from the PSU to the corresponding port on your motherboard. Ensure it clicks into place.
  2. CPU Power (4+4-pin or 8-pin): Connect the CPU power cable(s) from the PSU to the CPU power connector(s) on your motherboard. High-end motherboards may require two 8-pin connectors.
  3. PCIe Power (6+2-pin or 12VHPWR):
    • For graphics cards requiring 6-pin or 8-pin PCIe connectors, use the provided 6+2-pin cables.
    • For NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards or other GPUs requiring the new 12VHPWR connector, use the dedicated 12VHPWR cable. Ensure it is fully seated into both the PSU and the graphics card.

  4. SATA Power: Connect SATA power cables to your SSDs, HDDs, and optical drives.
  5. Peripheral Power (Molex): Connect peripheral power cables for case fans, fan controllers, or other accessories that use Molex connectors.
  6. Cable Management: Route cables neatly to improve airflow and aesthetics within your case.

5. Operating Instructions

Once all components are connected and secured, you can power on your system.

  1. Connect AC Power: Plug the AC power cord into the power supply's inlet and then into a wall outlet or surge protector.
  2. Power On PSU: Flip the power switch on the back of the power supply to the "ON" (I) position.
  3. Power On System: Press the power button on your computer case.

5.1. Fan Operation (Semi-Fanless Mode)

The FSP Dagger Pro 850W features a semi-fanless design for optimized low-noise operation. The fan will remain off (0dBA) under low load conditions (typically below 20% load or <25°C internal temperature). As the load increases, the fan will gradually spin up to maintain optimal temperatures, ensuring quiet operation when not under heavy demand.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your power supply.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your FSP Dagger Pro 850W power supply, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
System does not power on.
  • Power cord not connected.
  • PSU switch is off.
  • Loose cable connections.
  • Faulty component (motherboard, CPU, etc.).
  • PSU protection triggered.
  • Ensure AC power cord is securely plugged into PSU and wall outlet.
  • Flip the PSU switch to the "ON" (I) position.
  • Check all modular cable connections (24-pin, CPU, PCIe) at both the PSU and component ends.
  • Test components individually if possible.
  • Disconnect all power, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect and try again.
System powers on but shuts down immediately.
  • Overload or short circuit.
  • Overheating.
  • Faulty component.
  • Ensure total system power draw does not exceed 850W.
  • Check for proper component installation and ensure no metal parts are touching the motherboard.
  • Verify adequate case airflow and clean PSU fan/vents.
Fan is not spinning.
  • Semi-fanless mode is active.
  • Fan obstruction.
  • This is normal under low loads. The fan will activate when the load increases.
  • Check for any cables or debris blocking the fan.

If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact FSP customer support.
