Setup and Initial Inspection
Upon unboxing your new helmet, perform a thorough visual inspection to ensure there is no visible damage from shipping. Check the integrity of the shell, visor, and retention system.
Helmet Fitment
Proper fitment is crucial for safety. The helmet should fit snugly around your head without causing pressure points. It should not move freely when you shake your head. The X-903 features a Liner Positioning Control (LPC) system, allowing for fine-tuning of the liner's position to adapt to varying head shapes and requirements.
- Place the helmet on your head, ensuring it sits level and covers your forehead.
- Fasten the chin strap securely. It should be tight enough so that the helmet cannot be pulled off your head.
- With the chin strap fastened, try to rotate the helmet from side to side and front to back. There should be minimal movement.
- Adjust the Liner Positioning Control (LPC) as needed for optimal comfort and fit. Refer to the specific instructions for the LPC system provided with your helmet.

N-Com Communication System Setup
The Nolan X-903 Ultra Carbon helmet is set up for the N-Com communication systems. This means it has pre-drilled spaces and channels for easy installation of compatible N-Com units. Refer to the N-Com system's specific instruction manual for detailed installation procedures.
Operating Instructions
Visor Operation
The clear visor can be opened and closed using the tab located at the bottom center. The tilting mechanism ensures a tight seal when closed and smooth movement when opening. To open, gently lift the tab and pivot the visor upwards. To close, pull the visor down until it clicks into place.
Internal Sun Visor (VPS) Operation
The helmet features a fully adjustable Vision Protection System (VPS) sunscreen. This internal sun visor provides UV protection up to 400nm. Locate the slider mechanism on the side of the helmet. Slide it down to deploy the sun visor and slide it up to retract it. Adjust its position as needed for varying light conditions.
Ventilation System
The X-903 Ultra Carbon helmet is equipped with multiple vents for optimal airflow. Locate the intake vents on the chin bar and forehead, and exhaust vents at the rear. Open or close these vents by sliding the respective controls to regulate internal airflow and comfort.
Maintenance and Care
Cleaning the Helmet Shell
Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the helmet's finish and materials. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, clean cloth.
Cleaning the Visor and Sun Visor
The clear visor and internal VPS sunscreen should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive materials or paper towels, which can scratch the surfaces. For stubborn dirt, soak the visor in warm water before gently wiping. Ensure the visor is completely dry before re-installing or closing.
Liner Removal and Cleaning
The internal comfort liner is removable for cleaning. Carefully detach the liner components according to the instructions provided with your helmet. Hand wash the liner in cool water with mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before re-installing. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
Storage
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from dust and scratches when not in use.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Visor difficult to open/close | Dirt or debris in mechanism; mechanism dry | Clean the visor mechanism. Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant if necessary (avoid petroleum-based products). |
| Helmet feels loose after some use | Liner compression; improper initial fit | Re-evaluate fitment. Adjust Liner Positioning Control (LPC). If still loose, consider a smaller size or replacement liner. |
| Excessive wind noise | Visor not fully closed; vents open; improper fit | Ensure visor is fully latched. Close vents if not needed. Check helmet fitment. |
