2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before using the Baofeng F22 Walkie Talkie. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury, damage to the device, or void the warranty.

  • Do not operate the radio in explosive atmospheres (e.g., flammable gases, dust particles, metallic powders).
  • Do not disassemble or modify the radio. Repairs should only be performed by authorized personnel.
  • Use only approved batteries and chargers. Incorrect battery types or charging methods can cause fire or explosion.
  • Keep the radio away from medical devices, as it may interfere with their operation.
  • Avoid exposing the radio to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or excessive moisture.
  • Do not transmit without an antenna attached.
  • Maintain a safe distance from the antenna during transmission, especially for children.

  1. Antenna: For transmitting and receiving signals.
  2. Flashlight: Built-in LED light.
  3. Belt Clip Lock Tab: Secures the belt clip.
  4. PTT (Push-To-Talk) Button: Press and hold to transmit, release to receive.
  5. Flashlight Emergency Button: Activates the flashlight.
  6. Type-C USB Charging Port: For charging the device.
  7. Battery Release Latch: To open the battery compartment.
  8. Scan Button: Initiates channel scanning.
  9. MONI Button: Monitors weak signals.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The Baofeng F22 uses three AA batteries (not included). It supports both alkaline and NiMH rechargeable AA batteries. Note that alkaline batteries cannot be recharged within the device.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
  2. Press the battery release latch and slide the battery cover downwards to open.
  3. Insert three AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery cover and slide it upwards until it clicks into place.

5.2 Belt Clip Installation

Attach the belt clip for convenient carrying.

  1. Align the belt clip with the grooves on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the belt clip upwards until it locks securely into place.

5.3 Charging (for NiMH AA batteries)

If using NiMH rechargeable AA batteries, you can charge them via the Type-C USB port.

  1. Connect a Type-C USB cable to the charging port on the side of the radio.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a compatible USB power adapter (not included).
  3. The battery indicator on the LCD display will show charging status.
  4. Once fully charged, disconnect the cable.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the Power/Call button until the LCD display lights up.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the Power/Call button until the display turns off.

6.2 Channel Selection

The F22 has 16 PMR446 channels. To change channels:

  1. Press the Menu/Lock button once to enter channel selection mode. The channel number will flash.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select the desired channel (1-16).
  3. Press the Menu/Lock button again to confirm and exit.

6.3 CTCSS/DCS Privacy Codes

Privacy codes (sub-codes) help filter out unwanted conversations on the same channel. The F22 supports 50 CTCSS and 105 DCS codes.

  1. Press the Menu/Lock button twice to enter privacy code selection mode. The code number will flash.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select the desired CTCSS or DCS code.
  3. Press the Menu/Lock button again to confirm and exit.

6.4 Transmitting and Receiving

  • To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting.
  • To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive signals on the selected channel and privacy code.

6.5 VOX Function (Hands-Free Operation)

VOX allows you to transmit by speaking into the microphone without pressing the PTT button.

  1. Press the Menu/Lock button multiple times until the VOX setting appears on the display.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the VOX sensitivity level (higher number for lower sensitivity).
  3. Press the Menu/Lock button to confirm.

6.6 Channel Scan Function

The scan function allows you to automatically search for active channels.

  • Press the Scan button to start scanning. The radio will cycle through channels and stop on an active one.
  • Press the Scan button again to stop scanning.

6.7 Monitor Function

The monitor function allows you to listen to weak signals on the current channel, bypassing any set privacy codes.

  • Press and hold the MONI button to temporarily disable privacy codes and listen to all activity on the current channel.
  • Release the MONI button to return to normal operation.

6.8 Call Alert

Send an audible alert tone to other radios on the same channel and privacy code.

  • Press the Power/Call button briefly to send a call alert tone.

6.9 LED Flashlight

The built-in LED flashlight provides convenient illumination.

  • Press the Flashlight Emergency Button to turn the flashlight on/off.

6.10 Keypad Lock

Lock the keypad to prevent accidental button presses.

  • Press and hold the Menu/Lock button to lock the keypad. A lock icon will appear on the display.
  • Repeat the action to unlock the keypad.

6.11 Range Information

The communication range of the Baofeng F22 varies significantly based on environmental and topographical conditions.

  • Up to 600 meters (0.37 miles): In cities or towns with obstructions.
  • Up to 5 miles (8 km): In mountainous terrain (mountain to valley).
  • Up to 3 miles (4.8 km): In open water areas.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure the charging port cover is securely closed when not charging to prevent dust and moisture ingress.

7.2 Battery Care

  • If using rechargeable NiMH batteries, fully charge them before first use and periodically if stored for long periods.
  • Remove alkaline batteries if the radio will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Dispose of batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

7.3 Water Resistance (IP54)

The Baofeng F22 is rated IP54, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and splashing water from any direction. It is suitable for outdoor use in light rain but is not designed for immersion in water or heavy downpours.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Baofeng F22, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
