2. Safety Instructions

  • High Voltage: This device operates with high voltage. Do not open the chassis or attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Heat: Vacuum tubes generate significant heat during operation. Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier. Do not place the unit in an enclosed space or cover the ventilation holes. Avoid touching the tubes directly when the unit is powered on or immediately after powering off.
  • Power Source: Connect the amplifier only to the specified power supply voltage. Ensure the power cord is securely connected.
  • Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or excessive humidity. Keep liquids away from the amplifier.
  • Placement: Place the amplifier on a stable, level surface. Avoid placing it near heat sources, direct sunlight, or strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Tube Insertion: Vacuum tubes must be inserted correctly into their sockets. Incorrect orientation or incomplete insertion can lead to no sound or damage to the amplifier. Ensure each tube is firmly seated.

5. Setup

5.1 Vacuum Tube Installation

  1. Carefully unpack the vacuum tubes from their protective packaging.
  2. Identify the correct sockets for each tube (one 6N1 tube and two 6L6 tubes). The sockets are designed for specific tube types.
  3. Align the pins of each vacuum tube with the corresponding holes in the socket. Note that the pins are keyed, meaning they will only fit in one orientation. Do not force the tubes.
  4. Gently push each tube firmly into its socket until it is fully seated. Ensure there is no poor contact.

Caution: Incorrect tube insertion can damage the amplifier or prevent sound output. Always ensure tubes are correctly oriented and fully inserted.

5.2 Connecting Audio Sources

The Nobsound F5 has two stereo RCA inputs (CD and AUX).

  1. Connect your audio source (e.g., CD player, smartphone, computer) to either the "CD" or "AUX" RCA input jacks on the rear panel using appropriate RCA cables.
  2. Ensure the left and right channels are connected correctly (red for right, white for left).

5.3 Connecting Speakers

Connect your passive speakers to the speaker output terminals on the rear panel.

  1. Identify the impedance of your speakers (typically 4Ω or 8Ω).
  2. Connect the positive (+) terminal of your left speaker to the corresponding 8Ω or 4Ω terminal for the left channel (L) on the amplifier.
  3. Connect the negative (-) terminal of your left speaker to the 0Ω (common ground) terminal for the left channel (L).
  4. Repeat the process for the right speaker (R) using the right channel terminals.
  5. Ensure all speaker wire connections are secure and there are no stray strands that could cause a short circuit.

5.4 Power Connection

  1. Connect the included power cord to the AC power input on the rear panel of the amplifier.
  2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a suitable wall outlet.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. To power on the amplifier, turn the power switch on the front panel to the "ON" position. The vacuum tubes will begin to glow. Allow a few moments for the tubes to warm up before expecting full sound quality.
  2. To power off, turn the power switch to the "OFF" position.

6.2 Input Selection

Press the input selector button on the rear panel to switch between the "CD" and "AUX" audio inputs.

6.3 Volume Control

Rotate the volume knob on the front panel clockwise to increase the volume and counter-clockwise to decrease it.

6.4 Tube Rolling (Optional)

The Nobsound F5 is designed with pluggable vacuum tube sockets, allowing users to experiment with different compatible tubes to alter the sound characteristics. Compatible tubes include:

  • For 6L6: 6P3P, EL34, 6550, KT66
  • For 6N1: 6H1, ECC85

Warning: Always power off and unplug the amplifier before attempting to replace vacuum tubes. Allow tubes to cool down completely before handling. Ensure replacement tubes are compatible and inserted correctly.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the amplifier. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Tube Life: Vacuum tubes have a finite lifespan. If you notice a degradation in sound quality or if a tube fails, consider replacing it. Refer to section 6.4 for compatible tube types.
  • Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation holes are not obstructed to prevent overheating.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No sound output
  • Power not connected or unit not turned on.
