2. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your Epson Perfection V19 II scanner and prepare it for use.

2.1 Unpacking and Contents:

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all items listed below are present:

2.2 Physical Connection:

1. Place the scanner on a stable, flat surface.
2. Connect the supplied USB cable to the USB port on the back of the scanner.
3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer. The scanner is powered via this USB connection, so no separate power adapter is needed.

2.3 Software Installation:

The Epson ScanSmart software is essential for operating your scanner. An internet connection is required for software download.

1. Visit the official Epson support website for your model (e.g., epson.com/support/v19).

3. Operating Your Scanner

3.1 Basic Scanning with One-Touch Buttons:

The scanner features convenient buttons on its front panel for quick access to common scanning functions.

1. Place your document or photo face-down on the scanner glass, aligning it with the corner guide.
2. Close the scanner lid gently.
3. Press one of the dedicated buttons:
   • PDF Button: Scans the item and saves it as a PDF file.
   • Email Button: Scans the item and attaches it to a new email message.
   • Copy Button: Scans the item and sends it to your default printer.
   • Start Button: Initiates a scan using the default settings or opens the ScanSmart software for more options.
4. The scanned image will be processed and saved or sent according to the button pressed.

3.2 Scanning Bulky Items with the Removable Lid:

For scanning thick documents, books, or photo albums, the scanner's lid can be raised or completely removed.

1. Open the scanner lid.
2. To raise the lid, simply lift it. It is designed to extend upwards to accommodate thicker items.
3. To remove the lid, gently pull it upwards from its hinges until it detaches.
4. Place the bulky item on the scanner glass.
5. Initiate the scan using the ScanSmart software or a one-touch button.
6. After scanning, reattach the lid by aligning the hinges and pressing down until it clicks into place.

3.3 Using Epson ScanSmart Software:

The ScanSmart software provides advanced control over your scans, including resolution, color correction, and file format options.

1. Launch Epson ScanSmart from your computer's applications.
2. Select the desired scan type (e.g., Photo, Document, Custom).
3. Adjust settings such as resolution (DPI), color mode (Color, Grayscale, Black & White), and image enhancements (e.g., Easy Photo Fix for color restoration).
4. Click the "Scan" button within the software.
5. After the scan, you can preview, rotate, crop, and save your images in various formats (PDF, JPEG, TIFF, etc.).
6. The software also allows you to create searchable PDFs and editable Microsoft Office documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

4. Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your scanner.

4.1 Cleaning the Scanner Glass:

1. Turn off the scanner and disconnect the USB cable.
2. Open the scanner lid.
3. Gently wipe the scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a small amount of glass cleaner. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the glass.
4. Wipe the white document mat on the underside of the lid as well.
5. Allow the surfaces to dry completely before closing the lid or reconnecting the scanner.

4.2 Cleaning the Exterior:

Wipe the exterior casing of the scanner with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.

5.1 Scanner Not Responding:

• Check USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and your computer. Try a different USB port.

5.3 Scanning at 4800 dpi is Not Possible for Large Documents:

While the scanner boasts 4800 dpi optical resolution, practical limitations may apply when scanning very large documents at this highest setting due to memory or processing constraints of the connected computer. The Epson ScanSmart software may prevent scanning at this resolution if the document size exceeds certain internal limits. For large documents, consider scanning at a lower, but still high-quality, resolution (e.g., 600 dpi or 1200 dpi) to ensure successful completion of the scan.
