4. Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your scanner.

4.1 Cleaning the Scanner Glass:

  1. Turn off the scanner and disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Open the scanner lid.
  3. Gently wipe the scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a small amount of glass cleaner. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the glass.
  4. Wipe the white document mat on the underside of the lid as well.
  5. Allow the surfaces to dry completely before closing the lid or reconnecting the scanner.

4.2 Cleaning the Exterior:

Wipe the exterior casing of the scanner with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your scanner.

5.1 Scanner Not Responding:

  • Check USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and your computer. Try a different USB port.
  • Restart Computer and Scanner: Disconnect the scanner, restart your computer, then reconnect the scanner.
  • Verify Software Installation: Confirm that Epson ScanSmart software is correctly installed and updated.

5.2 Poor Scan Quality:

  • Clean Scanner Glass: Dust or smudges on the scanner glass can affect image quality. Refer to Section 4.1 for cleaning instructions.
  • Adjust Scan Settings: In Epson ScanSmart, increase the resolution (DPI) for higher detail. Ensure the correct document type and color mode are selected.
  • Photo Restoration: For faded photos, utilize the Easy Photo Fix feature in the ScanSmart software.

5.3 Scanning at 4800 dpi is Not Possible for Large Documents:

While the scanner boasts 4800 dpi optical resolution, practical limitations may apply when scanning very large documents at this highest setting due to memory or processing constraints of the connected computer. The Epson ScanSmart software may prevent scanning at this resolution if the document size exceeds certain internal limits. For large documents, consider scanning at a lower, but still high-quality, resolution (e.g., 600 dpi or 1200 dpi) to ensure successful completion of the scan.
