1. Introduction

This user manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of your Catler ES300 Espresso Machine. Please read this manual thoroughly before first use and retain it for future reference. The Catler ES300 is designed to prepare high-quality espresso, cappuccino, and latte beverages using a 20-bar Italian pump and a thermoblock heating system.

2. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before operating the appliance.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.

  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Use extreme caution when disposing of hot steam.
  • The appliance is equipped with a grounded plug. Please ensure your wall outlet is properly grounded.

3.1 Components

  • Water Tank: 1.2-liter capacity, removable for easy refilling.
  • Control Panel: Illuminated buttons for power, single espresso, double espresso, and steam function.
  • Pressure Gauge: Displays brewing pressure (up to 20 bar).
  • Portafilter: Professional lever holder for ground coffee.

3.2 Control Panel

  • Power Button: Turns the machine on/off.
  • Single Espresso Button: Brews a single shot of espresso.
  • Double Espresso Button: Brews a double shot of espresso.
  • Steam Button: Activates the steam function for milk frothing.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

  • Carefully remove the espresso machine and all accessories from the packaging.
  • Check for any damage during transit. Do not use if damaged.
  • Retain packaging for future transport or storage.

4.2 Initial Cleaning

  • Wash the water tank, portafilter, filter baskets, and drip tray with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

4.3 First Use Preparation

  1. Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the MAX line.
  2. Place the water tank back into its position on the machine.
  3. Ensure the drip tray is correctly inserted.
  4. Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet (220-240V ~ 50/60Hz).
  5. Press the Power button to turn on the machine. The indicator lights will flash as the machine heats up. Once stable, the machine is ready for use.
  6. Run a few cycles of hot water through the group head and steam wand without coffee to prime the system and clean any manufacturing residues.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Making Espresso

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Select the appropriate filter basket (single or double) and place it into the portafilter.
  3. Grind fresh coffee beans to a fine consistency suitable for espresso.
  4. Fill the filter basket with ground coffee. For a single shot, use approximately 7-8g; for a double shot, use 14-16g.
  5. Tamp the coffee evenly and firmly using the provided tamper. Ensure the surface is level.
  6. Wipe any excess coffee from the rim of the portafilter.
  7. Insert the portafilter into the group head and turn it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
  8. Place one or two pre-warmed cups on the drip tray beneath the portafilter spouts.
  9. Press the Single Espresso button for a single shot or the Double Espresso button for a double shot. The machine will automatically brew the coffee.
  10. Once brewing is complete, the machine will stop automatically. Carefully remove the portafilter and discard the used coffee grounds.

5.2 Frothing Milk (for Cappuccino/Latte)

  1. Fill a stainless steel milk pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to one-third full.
  2. Press the Steam button. The indicator light will flash as the machine heats up to steam temperature. Once stable, it is ready.
  3. Position the steam wand just below the surface of the milk.
  4. Turn the steam control knob on the side of the machine to release steam.
  5. Lower the pitcher slightly to introduce air into the milk, creating foam. Then, submerge the wand deeper to heat the milk.
  6. Continue until the milk reaches the desired temperature and consistency (approximately 60-70°C or 140-160°F).
  7. Turn the steam control knob off, then remove the pitcher.
  8. Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Briefly purge the steam wand to clear any internal blockages.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray daily. It is removable for easy access.
  • Portafilter & Filter Baskets: After each use, remove coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under hot water.
  • Steam Wand: Always wipe and purge the steam wand immediately after frothing milk.
  • Group Head: Wipe the group head with a damp cloth to remove any coffee residue.

6.2 Descaling

Regular descaling is crucial to maintain the performance and longevity of your espresso machine, especially in areas with hard water. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the group head and steam wand.
  4. Turn on the machine and run approximately half of the solution through the group head by pressing the espresso buttons.
  5. Run the remaining solution through the steam wand.
  6. After the tank is empty, rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh, clean water.
  7. Run several full tanks of fresh water through both the group head and steam wand to rinse out any descaler residue.

6.3 Storage

If the machine will not be used for an extended period, ensure it is clean and dry. Empty the water tank and drip tray. Store in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Ensure steam button is pressed and wait for indicator light to stabilize.
  • Clean steam wand thoroughly, use a pin to clear the nozzle.
Machine leaks water
  • Water tank not properly seated.
  • Drip tray full.
  • Seal around portafilter worn.
  • Re-seat water tank.
  • Empty and clean drip tray.
  • Contact customer support for seal replacement.
