1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use and maintenance of your Sena 3S Plus Bluetooth System Universal Microphone Kit. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device to ensure optimal performance and safety.

The Sena 3S Plus is a compact and powerful Bluetooth intercom system designed for motorcycle helmets, offering two-way HD intercom communication, music listening, and phone call capabilities.

3. Product Overview

Familiarize yourself with the main components and controls of your Sena 3S Plus unit.

3.1 Main Unit

  • Main Button: Used for power on/off, pairing, and intercom functions.
  • Volume Up Button: Increases volume, navigates menus.
  • Volume Down Button: Decreases volume, navigates menus.
  • USB-C Port: For charging and firmware updates.
  • Microphone: Integrated for voice communication.
  • Speakers: For audio output.

4. Installation and Setup

Follow these steps to install the Sena 3S Plus into your helmet.

4.1 Mounting the Main Unit

  1. Choose Location: Select a flat surface on the left side of your helmet, near the bottom edge, for optimal microphone and speaker placement.
  2. Clean Surface: Clean the chosen area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely.
  3. Attach Hook and Loop Fastener: Peel the backing from the hook and loop fastener (velcro) and firmly press it onto the helmet surface.
  4. Attach Main Unit: Align the main unit with the fastener and press firmly to secure it.

4.2 Speaker Installation

  1. Locate Ear Pockets: Identify the ear pockets inside your helmet.
  2. Attach Speaker Pads: If necessary, use the provided speaker pads to adjust the speaker depth for comfort and clear audio.
  3. Insert Speakers: Place the speakers into the ear pockets, ensuring they are centered over your ears. Route the speaker wires neatly under the helmet padding.

4.3 Microphone Placement

The 3S Plus comes with a universal microphone kit, which typically includes options for boom or wired microphones. Choose the one suitable for your helmet type (open-face/modular for boom, full-face for wired).

  1. Boom Microphone: Attach the boom microphone to the inside of the helmet, positioning the microphone capsule approximately 1-2 cm from your mouth.
  2. Wired Microphone: For full-face helmets, attach the wired microphone to the inside of the chin bar, ensuring it is close to your mouth and not obstructed.

Important: Ensure all wires are tucked away and do not interfere with helmet removal or comfort.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • Power On: Press and hold the Main Button for 1 second. The LED will flash blue.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the Main Button for 5 seconds. The LED will flash red and the unit will power off.

5.2 Volume Adjustment

  • Increase Volume: Tap the Volume Up Button.
  • Decrease Volume: Tap the Volume Down Button.

5.3 Charging

The Sena 3S Plus features USB-C charging.

  1. Connect the supplied USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the main unit.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter).
  3. The LED will glow red during charging and turn blue when fully charged.

A full charge typically takes approximately 2.5 hours and provides up to 8 hours of talk time.

6. Bluetooth Pairing

6.1 Pairing with a Mobile Phone

  1. With the 3S Plus powered off, press and hold the Main Button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue alternately. You will hear "Phone pairing".
  2. On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and search for devices.
  3. Select "Sena 3S Plus" from the list of detected devices.
  4. If prompted, enter PIN "0000".
  5. Once paired, the LED will flash blue every 5 seconds.

6.2 Pairing with another Sena Headset for Intercom

The Sena 3S Plus supports two-way HD intercom communication.

  1. Ensure both 3S Plus units are powered on.
  2. On Unit A, press and hold the Main Button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue alternately.
  3. On Unit B, press and hold the Main Button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue alternately.
  4. The units will automatically search for each other and pair. Once paired, the LEDs on both units will flash blue.
  5. To start/end intercom conversation, tap the Main Button on either unit.

The intercom range is up to 400 meters (approximately 1/4 mile) in open terrain.

7. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, charge the unit at least once every six months if not used regularly. Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Water Resistance: The unit is designed to be water-resistant, but avoid submerging it in water.

8. Troubleshooting

No audio from speakers.Check volume levels. Ensure speakers are properly connected and positioned. Verify Bluetooth connection.
Intercom not connecting.Ensure both units are in intercom pairing mode. Check distance between units (max 400m). Try resetting both units.
Bluetooth device not pairing.Ensure the 3S Plus is in phone pairing mode (red/blue flashing LED). Turn off and on Bluetooth on your phone. Try forgetting the device on your phone and re-pairing.
Poor microphone quality.Check microphone placement (1-2 cm from mouth). Ensure it's not obstructed by helmet padding or wind.

8.1 Factory Reset

If the unit is not functioning correctly, a factory reset may resolve the issue. To perform a factory reset:

  1. With the unit powered on, press and hold the Main Button for 12 seconds.
  2. The LED will flash red rapidly, and you will hear "Factory reset".
  3. The unit will power off. Power it on again to use.

Warning: A factory reset will delete all Bluetooth pairing information and settings.
