Operating Instructions

Once the portafilter is installed, follow these steps for brewing espresso:

  1. Grind Coffee: Grind fresh coffee beans to an espresso-fine consistency.
  2. Dose Coffee: Fill the chosen filter basket with the appropriate amount of ground coffee. For the 1-cup basket, typically 7-9 grams. For the 2-cup basket, typically 14-18 grams.
  3. Tamp: Use a tamper to press the coffee grounds evenly and firmly into the basket. Ensure the surface is level.
  4. Wipe Rim: Wipe any loose coffee grounds from the rim of the portafilter to ensure a good seal with the group head.
  5. Attach to Machine: Securely attach the portafilter to the espresso machine's group head as described in the Setup section.
  6. Brew: Place your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts. Initiate the brewing cycle on your Neretva espresso machine according to its specific operating instructions.
  7. Remove: Once brewing is complete, carefully remove the portafilter by twisting it to the left. Be cautious as it will be hot.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your portafilter:

  • After Each Use:
    • Remove the used coffee puck from the filter basket.
    • Rinse the filter basket and portafilter head under warm running water to remove any coffee residue.
    • Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
  • Weekly Cleaning:
    • Remove the filter basket from the portafilter.
    • Soak both the portafilter head and filter baskets in a solution of warm water and a mild, non-abrasive detergent for 15-30 minutes.
    • Use a soft brush to scrub away any stubborn coffee oils or residue.
    • Rinse thoroughly under running water until all soap residue is gone.
    • Dry completely before reassembly or storage.
