4. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your PoE+ Switching Hub:

  1. Unpack the Device: Carefully remove the switch from its packaging.
  2. Connect Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the switch's power input port and then to a standard electrical outlet. The power LED indicator should illuminate.
  3. Connect Uplink: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your router or main network to one of the Uplink ports (ports 5 or 6) on the switch.
  4. Connect PoE Devices: Connect your PoE-compatible devices (e.g., IP cameras, wireless access points) to the PoE+ ports (ports 1-4) using Ethernet cables. The switch will automatically detect and power these devices.
  5. Connect Non-PoE Devices: Connect any non-PoE network devices (e.g., computers, NVRs) to the remaining ports (ports 1-6, depending on PoE usage) as needed.

5. Operating Instructions

The switch features a dial switch on the front panel to select different operating modes:

  • 1: Extend Mode (250m): When enabled, this mode extends the transmission distance of PoE ports 1-4 up to 250 meters at a speed of 10Mbps. This is useful for long-distance deployments of IP cameras or other PoE devices where standard 100m Ethernet limits are insufficient.
  • 2: Standard Mode: This is the default operating mode. All ports (1-6) operate at their standard 10/100Mbps speeds, and PoE ports (1-4) provide power up to 100 meters.
  • 3: Port Isolation Mode: In this mode, PoE+ ports 1-4 cannot communicate with each other, enhancing network security by isolating traffic between connected devices. However, all ports can still communicate with the Uplink ports (5-6).

To change the mode, use a small tool to adjust the dial switch to the desired setting (1, 2, or 3).

Figure 5.2: In Port Isolation Mode, PoE+ ports 1-4 are isolated from each other, preventing direct communication between devices connected to these ports, but they can still communicate with the Uplink ports (5-6) to access the main network.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your keepLiNK PoE+ Switching Hub, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the switch within the specified temperature range of -10°C to +50°C. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper airflow around the switch. Do not block the ventilation holes.
  • Cable Management: Organize network cables neatly to prevent strain on ports and accidental disconnections.
  • Power Supply: Use only the provided power adapter. Disconnect power during electrical storms or when not in use for extended periods.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your keepLiNK PoE+ Switching Hub, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the switch and a working electrical outlet.
    • Verify that the power outlet is functional.
  • No Network Connectivity:
    • Check all Ethernet cable connections between the switch, router, and connected devices. Ensure cables are not damaged.
    • Verify that the Uplink port is correctly connected to your main network.
    • Confirm that the connected devices are powered on and configured correctly.
  • PoE Device Not Receiving Power:
    • Ensure the device connected is PoE-compatible (IEEE 802.3af/at standard). This switch does not support 24V passive PoE.
    • Check the total power consumption of all connected PoE devices to ensure it does not exceed the 65W total PoE budget.
    • Try connecting the PoE device to a different PoE+ port on the switch.
    • Verify the Ethernet cable is functioning correctly and supports PoE.
  • Slow Network Speed in Extend Mode:
    • Extend Mode operates at 10Mbps. This is normal behavior for extended distances. If higher speeds are required, ensure cable length is within 100 meters and switch to Standard Mode.
