Exped Pack Poncho UL User Manual

Model: Pack Poncho UL (B0C257Y6YY)

1. Introduction

The Exped Pack Poncho UL is a versatile and lightweight piece of rain gear designed for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers superior ventilation compared to traditional jacket/pants combinations and is capable of covering both the user and their backpack, eliminating the need for separate rain pants in most conditions.

This manual provides detailed instructions on the setup, operation, maintenance, and specifications of your Exped Pack Poncho UL to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

2. Key Features

  • Integrated Zippered Pack Compartment: Accommodates backpacks up to 100 liters. When not in use, this section zips closed and tucks away.
  • Lightweight and Compact: Designed for minimal weight and pack size, offering two packing options: flat into its internal chest pocket or compact into the included small stuff sack.
  • Anatomically Shaped Hood: Features a water-shedding protective brim and a single-hand cord-and-toggle adjustment for a secure and comfortable fit.
  • Secure Attachment: A clever snap-button in the upper back area allows the poncho to be anchored to a backpack's haul loop, preventing it from falling off when gathered across the shoulders.
  • Enhanced Mobility: Snaps at the sleeve openings prevent them from slipping upwards, and another snap at the bottom edge, situated between the legs, can be engaged to limit flapping in windy conditions.
  • Waterproof Construction: All seams are factory-taped to ensure complete waterproofness.

3. Setup and Preparation

  1. Unpacking: Remove the Pack Poncho UL from its stuff sack or internal pocket. Allow it to unfold completely.
  2. Hood Adjustment: Place the hood over your head. Use the single-hand cord-and-toggle adjustment to cinch the hood for a snug fit, ensuring the brim effectively sheds water away from your face.
  3. Initial Inspection: Before first use, inspect all seams and snaps to ensure they are intact and functional.

4.2. Using with a Backpack

The Pack Poncho UL features an integrated zippered compartment designed to cover backpacks up to 100 liters. To use:

  1. Unzip the pack compartment located at the back of the poncho.
  2. Place the poncho over yourself and your backpack, allowing the pack to fit into the expanded compartment.
  3. For added security and to prevent the poncho from shifting, locate the snap-button in the upper back area of the poncho. This snap can be fastened around your backpack's haul loop.

4.3. Using Without a Backpack

When not carrying a backpack, ensure the integrated pack compartment is zipped closed. It will tuck neatly inside the poncho, maintaining a streamlined profile.

4.4. Managing in Windy Conditions

  • Sleeve Snaps: Utilize the snaps located at the sleeve openings to secure them and prevent them from riding up your arms in strong winds.
  • Leg Snap: For additional stability in very windy conditions, locate the snap at the bottom edge of the poncho, situated between the legs. Fasten this snap to create a more enclosed shape, limiting flapping.

4.5. Temporary Stowage

If the rain or wind temporarily subsides, the poncho can be gathered and stowed across your shoulders without fully removing it. This is achieved by utilizing the snap-button anchored to your backpack's haul loop (as described in 4.2). This prevents the poncho from falling to either side.

5. Care and Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Hand wash the poncho with mild soap and cool water. Do not use bleach or harsh detergents.
  • Drying: Air dry the poncho completely before packing it away. Do not tumble dry or expose to direct heat. Ensure it is thoroughly dry to prevent mildew and damage to the waterproof coating.
  • Storage: Store the clean, dry poncho in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid Sharp Objects: Be mindful of sharp objects that could puncture or tear the fabric.

6. Storage Options

The Exped Pack Poncho UL offers two convenient storage methods:

  • Internal Chest Pocket: The poncho can be neatly folded and stowed flat into its integrated front-situated internal chest pocket, creating a compact package.
  • Stuff Sack: For even more compact storage, utilize the included small stuff sack. Carefully fold or roll the poncho and insert it into the stuff sack.
