Setup

Before you begin your excavation, ensure you have a suitable workspace and prepare your tools:

1. Choose a Location: Select a flat, stable surface for your digging activity. This activity can be messy, so an outdoor area or a table covered with the provided tablecloth is recommended.
2. Lay Out the Tablecloth: Unfold the Solar System Tablecloth and place it on your chosen surface. This will help contain the mess and also serves as an educational guide.
3. Fill the Watering Can: Fill the small watering can (or spray bottle) with cool water. This water will be used to soften the plaster during excavation.
4. Prepare Tools: Have your hammer, chisel, and brush ready.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to excavate your gemstones and discover the hidden treasures:

1. Soften the Plaster: Use the watering can to spray water onto the plaster planet (Earth, Moon, or Mars). This will help soften the material, making it easier to dig. The more you spray, the easier it is to excavate.
2. Begin Excavation: Carefully use the hammer and chisel to break open the plaster planet. Work slowly and patiently to avoid damaging the hidden rocks and minerals.
3. Brush Away Debris: As you dig, use the brush to gently remove loose plaster and dust, revealing the gemstones.
4. Identify Your Finds: Once you have unearthed a rock or mineral, clean it with water and use the provided Learning Guide to identify it. The guide contains detailed illustrations and descriptions of each stone.
5. Hatching Dino Egg: As a special surprise, your kit includes a Baby Hatching Dinosaur Egg. Place the dino egg into a cup of cool water. The egg shell will begin to split within 24 hours, and a mini dinosaur will gradually hatch and continue to grow over the next 3-5 days.

To ensure the longevity of your kit and its components:

• Clean Tools: After each use, wash the hammer, chisel, and brush with water to remove any plaster residue. Allow them to air dry completely before storing.
• Store Gemstones: Keep your collected gemstones in a safe place to prevent loss or damage.
• Clean Tablecloth: The solar system tablecloth is durable and easy to clean. Wipe it down with a damp cloth after use.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues during your digging adventure, consider the following:
