1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Raybee 5-Tier Heavy Duty Metal Shelving Unit. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient assembly, operation, and maintenance of your new shelving unit. Designed for versatility and durability, this unit is ideal for organizing spaces such as garages, warehouses, basements, and pantries.

This shelving unit features a robust all-metal construction with a total weight capacity of 2000 lbs, supporting up to 400 lbs per shelf. Its innovative design allows for adjustable shelf heights and the option to configure it as two separate smaller units, adapting to your specific storage needs.

2. Safety Information

  • Always assemble the unit on a flat, stable surface.
  • Ensure all connections are securely fastened before loading the shelves.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 400 lbs per shelf or 2000 lbs total for the entire unit.
  • Distribute weight evenly across shelves to maintain stability.
  • Do not climb or stand on the shelving unit.
  • Keep children and pets away from the unit during assembly and while in use.
  • If using as two separate units, ensure each unit is stable and properly balanced.

3. Package Contents

Please verify that all components are present before beginning assembly:

  • Metal upright posts
  • Horizontal support beams
  • Metal shelves (5 tiers)

If any parts are missing or damaged, please contact customer support.

4. Setup and Assembly

The Raybee shelving unit features a special interlocking design for quick assembly, typically within 10 minutes. No nuts or bolts are required.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Begin by attaching the short support bars onto the vertical columns. Ensure they are properly aligned with the keyhole slots.
  2. Gently tap the bars into place using the provided rubber mallet until they are securely seated.
  3. Continue building the frame by connecting the upright posts with the horizontal support beams.
  4. Once the frame is stable, insert the metal shelves onto the support beams. Ensure the shelves sit flush and are stable.
  5. Repeat for all five tiers.
  6. Place the plastic feet caps on the bottom of the upright posts to protect your flooring.

Adjustable Configuration:

The height of each shelf can be adjusted in 1.4-inch increments by repositioning the crossbars in the keyhole slots. This allows you to customize the spacing to accommodate items of various heights.

Additionally, the 5-tier unit can be separated into two smaller, independent shelving units (e.g., a 3-tier and a 2-tier unit) to function as workbenches or to fit into different spaces.

5. Operating Instructions

To maximize the lifespan and safety of your Raybee shelving unit, follow these operating guidelines:

  • Loading: Place heavier items on lower shelves to improve stability. Distribute items evenly across the entire shelf surface.
  • Weight Limits: Adhere strictly to the 400 lbs per shelf and 2000 lbs total weight capacity. Overloading can lead to structural failure and injury.
  • Adjusting Shelves: When adjusting shelf heights, ensure the support beams are fully seated in the keyhole slots before placing items on the shelf. It is recommended to unload the shelf before adjusting its height.
  • Two-Unit Configuration: If you choose to divide the unit into two separate racks, ensure each new unit is independently stable and placed on a level surface.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help preserve the condition and functionality of your shelving unit:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the metal surfaces with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the powder-coated finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all connections to ensure they remain secure. Re-tap any loose support bars with the rubber mallet if necessary.
  • Stability Check: Ensure the unit remains stable and level, especially after moving or reconfiguring.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your shelving unit, consider the following:

  • Wobbling: If the unit feels wobbly, ensure it is placed on a completely flat and level surface. Verify that all support bars are fully engaged in their keyhole slots. The thickened metal boards and three support ribs beneath each shelf are designed to enhance stability.
  • Difficulty Assembling: Ensure you are using the provided rubber mallet to firmly tap the components into place. Sometimes a bit more force is needed to secure the interlocking design. Refer to the assembly video for visual guidance.
  • Shelves Not Level: Double-check that the support beams for each shelf are inserted into corresponding keyhole slots at the same height on all four upright posts.
