Setup
1. Planning Your Installation
Before mounting, plan the camera's location. Consider the desired viewing area, proximity to power outlets, and the path for the BNC cable to your DVR. Ensure the camera has a clear line of sight and the True Detect™ sensor is not obstructed.
2. Mounting the Camera
- Position the camera in the desired location. The durable stand allows for wall or ceiling mounting.
- Mark the screw holes using the camera base as a template.
- Drill pilot holes if necessary and insert the provided wall plugs.
- Secure the camera base using the mounting screws.
- Adjust the camera's angle to cover the desired area.
3. Connecting the Camera
- Connect one end of the 60ft BNC cable to the camera's video output port.
- Route the cable securely to your Swann DVR, ensuring it is protected from damage and weather elements.
- Connect the other end of the BNC cable to an available video input channel on your DVR.
- Connect the camera's power cable to a suitable power adapter (typically supplied with your DVR system) and plug it into a power outlet.
- Power on your DVR system. The camera feed should appear on the connected monitor.
Operating
Viewing Live Footage
Once connected to your DVR, you can view live footage from the camera through your DVR's interface on a connected monitor or via the Swann Security app on your smartphone or tablet.
Night Vision Modes
- Color Night Vision: The camera's sensor spotlight activates in low light conditions, providing full-color video up to 32ft (10m).
- Infrared (Black & White) Night Vision: In complete darkness or when the spotlight is not triggered, the camera uses infrared LEDs for black and white video up to 130ft (40m).
True Detect™ Heat and Motion Detection
The integrated PIR sensor detects heat signatures of moving objects, such as people and large vehicles, reducing false alarms from swaying branches or insects. When motion is detected, the camera can trigger recording, activate the spotlight, and send notifications via your DVR system.
Smart Home Integration
The camera can be integrated with compatible smart home devices. Use voice commands with Hey Google or Amazon Alexa to view camera feeds on smart displays.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance of your security camera:
- Cleaning the Lens: Periodically clean the camera lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or smudges that may affect image clarity. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Checking Connections: Ensure all cable connections (BNC and power) are secure and free from corrosion or damage. Loose connections can lead to signal loss or intermittent operation.
- Firmware Updates: Check the Swann support website for any available firmware updates for your DVR system, which may include updates for connected cameras. Follow the instructions provided by Swann for safe updating.
- Physical Inspection: Regularly inspect the camera's mounting and casing for any signs of wear, damage, or tampering.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your camera, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Video Signal:
- Ensure the camera is properly powered and the power adapter is functioning.
- Check that the BNC cable is securely connected at both the camera and DVR ends.
- Try connecting the camera to a different BNC input on the DVR to rule out a faulty DVR channel.
- Test with a different BNC cable if available.
- Poor Image Quality (Blurry/Distorted):
- Clean the camera lens thoroughly.
- Ensure the BNC cable is not damaged or excessively long, which can degrade signal quality.
- Check your DVR's display settings for the camera channel.
- Night Vision Not Working:
- Ensure the area is sufficiently dark for night vision to activate.
- Check for any obstructions blocking the IR LEDs or sensor spotlight.
- Verify that the camera's night vision settings are enabled on your DVR.
- Motion Detection Issues (Too Many/Few Alerts):
- Adjust the sensitivity settings for True Detect™ on your DVR.
- Ensure the PIR sensor is not obstructed and is aimed correctly at the detection area.
- Avoid placing the camera where constant heat sources or reflective surfaces might trigger false alarms.
