Setup
1. Initial Winding
As an automatic watch, the Luminox XS.3862 is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped, it requires an initial manual wind to start the movement and build up the power reserve.
- Unscrew the crown by turning it counter-clockwise until it is free from the case.
- Pull the crown out to position 1 (first click).
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will manually wind the mainspring.
- Push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise firmly against the case to ensure water resistance.
The watch will now start running. Wearing the watch regularly will keep it wound. If unworn, the power reserve typically lasts for approximately 38 hours.
2. Setting Time and Date
- Unscrew the crown by turning it counter-clockwise.
- Pull the crown out to position 2 (second click). This is the time-setting position.
- Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To avoid damaging the movement, it is recommended to set the time to 6:00 AM before adjusting the date.
- Push the crown back to position 1 (first click). This is the quick-set date/day position.
- Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date and counter-clockwise to adjust the day. Adjust until the correct day and date are displayed for the previous day.
- Pull the crown out to position 2 again.
- Advance the time past 12:00 AM (midnight) until the date and day change to the current day. Continue to set the correct current time, ensuring AM/PM is correctly set.
- Push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise firmly against the case to ensure water resistance.
Note: Some watches may display the day in multiple languages. If the day is not in English, continue turning the crown in the quick-set day position until the desired language appears.
3. Strap Adjustment
The grey rubber strap is designed for a secure fit. If adjustment is needed, it may involve cutting the strap to size. It is recommended to have this procedure performed by a qualified watch technician to ensure proper fit and to avoid damage to the strap or clasp mechanism.
Operating Instructions
Automatic Movement
Your Luminox XS.3862 is equipped with a Swiss automatic movement. This means the watch is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. When worn, the rotor inside the watch rotates, winding the mainspring and storing energy. If the watch is not worn for an extended period (beyond its power reserve), it will stop and require manual winding as described in the Setup section.
Unidirectional Rotating Bezel
The watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel. This bezel can be used to measure elapsed time, typically for diving or other timed activities. To use:
- Rotate the bezel counter-clockwise until the zero marker aligns with the minute hand.
- The minute hand will then indicate the elapsed time against the bezel's scale.
The unidirectional design prevents accidental clockwise rotation, which would incorrectly indicate less elapsed time, a critical safety feature for divers.
Luminox Light Technology (LLT)
Luminox watches feature a self-powered illumination system that provides constant glow for up to 25 years, regardless of external light sources. This technology ensures optimal visibility in all lighting conditions, including complete darkness, without requiring a push of a button or charging by light.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch, clean the case and strap regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For rubber straps, mild soap and water can be used. Ensure the crown is fully screwed down before cleaning with water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Water Resistance
Your Luminox XS.3862 is water-resistant to 200 meters (660 feet). This rating makes it suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for saturation diving. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water. After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and dry it thoroughly.
Important: Do not operate the crown or push buttons (if present on other models) while the watch is wet or submerged, as this can compromise water resistance.
Service Intervals
Automatic mechanical movements benefit from periodic servicing to ensure accuracy and reliability. It is generally recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized Luminox service center every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as replacement of seals to maintain water resistance.
Troubleshooting
- Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, manually wind it by unscrewing the crown and turning it clockwise 20-30 times in position 1. Ensure the crown is screwed back in. If the issue persists after regular wear, the watch may require servicing.
- Incorrect Day/Date Display: If the day or date is not changing at midnight, or is displayed in an unintended language, refer to the "Setting Time and Date" section for proper adjustment procedures. Ensure you advance the time past midnight to trigger the date/day change.
- Condensation Under Crystal: Small amounts of condensation that disappear quickly are usually not a concern. However, if significant condensation persists or reappears, it indicates a loss of water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent internal damage.
- Accuracy Issues: Automatic watches can vary slightly in accuracy. If your watch is consistently gaining or losing a significant amount of time (e.g., more than +/- 30 seconds per day), it may require regulation by a watchmaker.
