Key Features

  • Wi-Fi 6E Technology: Supports 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands for enhanced capacity and performance.
  • High Performance: Dual 2x2:2 radios deliver aggregate data rates up to 4.8 Gbps, suitable for high-density environments.
  • Advanced Security: Includes WPA3 security standard and a dedicated tri-frequency sensor for rogue device monitoring.
  • Flexible Management: Can be managed via ExtremeCloud IQ (cloud-based) or ExtremeCloud IQ Controller (on-premises).
  • Compact and Durable Design: Small form factor, designed to operate in temperatures from -20°C to +55°C.

Setup

1. Package Contents

Before beginning installation, verify that your package contains the following items:

  • AP3000-WW Access Point
  • Mounting Bracket (AH-Acc-BKT-AX-TB)
  • Quick Start Guide

Note: Power adapter and Ethernet cables are typically sold separately.

2. Physical Installation

The AP3000-WW is designed for indoor deployment. It can be mounted on a wall or ceiling using the provided mounting bracket.

  1. Select a Location: Choose a central location free from obstructions to maximize Wi-Fi coverage. Avoid placing near large metal objects or sources of electromagnetic interference.
  2. Attach Mounting Bracket: Secure the mounting bracket to the desired surface (wall or ceiling) using appropriate screws and anchors (not included). Ensure the bracket is firmly attached.
  3. Mount the Access Point: Align the AP3000-WW with the mounting bracket and slide it into place until it clicks securely.

3. Connecting Cables

Connect the necessary cables to the AP3000-WW ports:

  • Ethernet (PoE+): Connect an Ethernet cable from a Power over Ethernet (PoE+) enabled switch or injector to the ETH0/PoE+ port. This port provides both data connectivity and power to the access point.
  • Optional DC Power: If PoE+ is not available, connect a 12VDC power adapter (sold separately) to the 12VDC power input port.
  • Console Port: The CONSOLE port (USB-C) is used for local management and debugging via a serial connection.
  • USB Port: The USB port (USB-A) can be used for future expansion or specific accessories.

4. Initial Configuration

Once powered on, the AP3000-WW will begin its boot sequence. For initial configuration and ongoing management, Extreme Networks offers two primary options:

  • ExtremeCloud IQ (Cloud-based): This is the recommended method for scalable and flexible management. Register your device with your ExtremeCloud IQ account and follow the on-screen instructions for provisioning.
  • ExtremeCloud IQ Controller (On-premises): For local deployments, the AP can be managed via an on-premises ExtremeCloud IQ Controller. Refer to the Controller documentation for setup and integration.

Detailed configuration steps, including SSID setup, security settings, and network policies, are available in the ExtremeCloud IQ documentation or the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller user guide.

Operating

Network Operation

The AP3000-WW operates as a wireless access point, broadcasting Wi-Fi signals across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. Client devices (laptops, smartphones, tablets) can connect to the network SSIDs configured on the access point.

  • Band Steering: The AP can intelligently steer clients to the optimal frequency band (5 GHz or 6 GHz) for better performance, if supported by the client device.
  • Security: Ensure WPA3 or WPA2 encryption is enabled for secure wireless communication. The dedicated tri-frequency sensor continuously monitors for rogue access points and other security threats.
  • LED Indicators: The AP3000-WW features LED indicators that provide status information. Refer to the full product documentation for a detailed explanation of LED patterns and their meanings (e.g., power, network activity, wireless status).

Maintenance

Firmware Updates

Regular firmware updates are crucial for maintaining optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Firmware updates are typically managed through ExtremeCloud IQ or the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller. Follow the instructions provided by the management platform to perform updates.

Cleaning

To clean the access point, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or solvents, as these can damage the device.

Environmental Considerations

Ensure the AP3000-WW is operated within its specified temperature range (-20°C to +55°C) and humidity levels. Avoid exposing the device to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture.

Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your AP3000-WW access point.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power / LEDs OffNo power from PoE+ switch or DC adapter; faulty cable.Verify PoE+ is active on the switch port or check DC power adapter connection and functionality. Try a different Ethernet or power cable.
