Safety Information

  • Always ensure the running boards are securely fastened before use.
  • The maximum weight capacity for these side steps is 400 lbs (181 kg). Do not exceed this limit.
  • Exercise caution when stepping on or off the running boards, especially in wet or icy conditions.
  • Regularly inspect the running boards and mounting hardware for any signs of wear, damage, or looseness.
  • Keep children and pets away from the vehicle during installation.

Setup (Installation)

Installation typically takes approximately 2-4 hours for two people. While no drilling is required, some modifications to the vehicle's undercarriage panels are necessary. It is recommended to have the vehicle on ramps or a lift for easier access.

Required Tools (Not Included):

  • Socket wrench set
  • Razor knife or utility knife
  • Vehicle ramps or lift

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. For optimal access, raise the vehicle using ramps or a lift.
  2. Remove Undercarriage Panels: Locate and carefully remove the plastic undercarriage panels on both sides of the vehicle. These are typically secured with push-pin connectors and a few bolts. Keep all removed fasteners for reinstallation.
  3. Identify Cutting Marks: On the inside of the removed undercarriage panels, locate the scribe marks provided by the vehicle manufacturer. These marks indicate where the panels need to be cut to accommodate the running board brackets.
  4. Cut Undercarriage Panels: Using a razor knife or utility knife, carefully cut along the identified scribe marks on the undercarriage panels. These panels are often made of a cardboard-like material with a thin carpet cover.
  5. Install Mounting Brackets: Attach the appropriate mounting brackets to the vehicle's frame using the provided hardware. The factory-drilled and threaded holes should align with the brackets.
    • Pre-thread Bolts: It is advisable to pre-thread the supplied bolts into the vehicle's fittings before final installation to ensure proper fit and prevent stripping, as some bolts may be soft.
    • Tighten Securely: Once all brackets are in place, tighten all bolts securely, but avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to the bolts or vehicle threads.
  6. Attach Running Boards: Carefully position the running boards onto the installed brackets. Secure them using the remaining assembly hardware. Ensure the running boards are level and properly aligned with the vehicle's body.
  7. Reinstall Modified Panels: Reinstall the modified undercarriage panels, ensuring they fit around the new running board brackets. Secure them with the original push-pin connectors and bolts.
  8. Final Inspection: After installation, perform a thorough inspection. Check all bolts and connections to ensure they are tight and secure. Test the stability of the running boards by applying weight.

Important Note for Hybrid Models: Installation on hybrid CR-V models (e.g., 2025 CRV Hybrid) may be more challenging due to the design of the undercarriage protection for wires and pipes. If you are uncomfortable with the installation process, it is highly recommended to seek professional assistance.

  • Vehicle Entry and Exit: Use the running boards as a stable step to comfortably enter and exit your Honda CR-V, especially beneficial for children, elderly passengers, or individuals with mobility challenges.
  • Roof Access: The running boards provide a secure platform, making it easier to reach and manage items on your vehicle's roof rack, such as luggage, bicycles, or other gear.
  • Vehicle Protection: The running boards act as a barrier, helping to protect the lower side panels of your vehicle from road debris, mud, and minor impacts.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and continued performance of your Snailfly Running Boards.

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the running boards regularly with mild soap and water to remove dirt, mud, and road salt. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the powder-coated finish.
  • Inspect Hardware: Periodically check all mounting bolts and brackets for tightness. Vibrations from driving can sometimes cause fasteners to loosen over time. Re-tighten any loose hardware as needed.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the running boards for any signs of physical damage, such as cracks, bends, or excessive wear on the non-slip surface. Address any damage promptly to maintain safety and appearance.
  • Corrosion Prevention: Although made from corrosion-resistant materials, regular cleaning and inspection, especially in areas with harsh weather or road salt, will help prevent long-term corrosion.
