1. Introduction

The Deco X50-5G is designed to deliver ultra-fast 5G broadband connectivity and seamless Wi-Fi 6 mesh coverage throughout your home.

3. Product Overview

3.1. Hardware Layout

Familiarize yourself with the ports and indicators on your Deco X50-5G unit.

  • 5G/4G/3G External RP-SMA-F Antenna Ports: Connect external antennas for improved cellular signal reception.
  • 2x Gigabit Ports: For connecting wired devices like computers, gaming consoles, or other network devices.
  • Advanced 2.5 Gbps Port: Provides ultra-fast wired connection for high-bandwidth devices or as a WAN port.
  • Reset Button: Used to reset the device to factory settings.
  • Power Port: Connects to the power adapter.
  • Nano SIM Card Slot: Insert your Nano SIM card for 5G/4G internet access.

3.2. LED Indicator Status

The LED on the top of your Deco unit indicates its current status:

  • Solid Green: Deco is working properly.
  • Pulsing Blue: Deco is ready for setup.
  • Solid Red: Deco has an issue (e.g., no internet connection).
  • Pulsing Red: Deco is resetting.

4. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your Deco X50-5G router:

  1. Insert Nano SIM Card: Locate the Nano SIM card slot on the bottom of the Deco unit. Gently insert your Nano SIM card until it clicks into place. Ensure the card is oriented correctly as shown in the quick installation guide.
  2. Position Your Deco: Place your Deco unit in a central location in your home, away from obstructions and large metal objects, for optimal signal coverage.
  3. Connect Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the Deco unit's power port and plug it into a wall outlet. Wait for the LED indicator on top of the Deco to pulse blue, indicating it's ready for setup.
  4. Download the Deco App: Scan the QR code below or search for "TP-Link Deco" in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) to download the Deco app on your smartphone or tablet.

  5. Configure via App: Open the Deco app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Deco network. The app will guide you through creating a TP-Link ID, connecting to your Deco's temporary Wi-Fi, and configuring your network settings, including Wi-Fi name and password.
  6. Expand Mesh Network (Optional): If you have multiple Deco units, the app will guide you on how to add them to your mesh network for extended coverage.

5. Operating Your Deco X50-5G

5.1. Connecting Devices

Once your Deco network is set up, you can connect your devices:

  • Wireless Devices: Search for your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or smart TV, and enter the password you created during setup.
  • Wired Devices: Connect devices like desktop computers, gaming consoles, or network-attached storage (NAS) to the Gigabit Ethernet ports on the back of the Deco unit using an Ethernet cable.

5.2. Deco App Features

The Deco app provides comprehensive control over your network:

  • Network Management: View connected devices, prioritize bandwidth for specific devices, and manage guest networks.
  • HomeShield Security: Access features like Network Protection, Parental Controls, and IoT Security to enhance your network's safety.
  • Firmware Updates: Keep your Deco unit updated with the latest firmware for optimal performance and security.
  • Voice Control: Integrate with Amazon Alexa for voice commands (e.g., "Alexa, turn on guest WiFi").

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Deco X50-5G:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the unit's ventilation holes are not blocked to prevent overheating.
  • Firmware Updates: Check for and install firmware updates via the Deco app to benefit from new features and security enhancements.
  • Power Cycle: If you experience minor network issues, try power cycling the Deco unit by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:

7.1. No Internet Connection

  • Check SIM Card: Ensure the Nano SIM card is correctly inserted and active with your mobile carrier.
  • Check LED Status: If the LED is solid red, there might be an issue with the cellular connection. Check your mobile data plan and signal strength in the Deco app.
  • Reboot Deco: Unplug the power adapter, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Check Signal Strength: Use the Deco app to check the 5G/4G signal strength. If it's weak, try repositioning the Deco unit or consider external antennas.

7.2. Wi-Fi Signal Weak or Unstable

  • Deco Placement: Ensure your Deco unit is centrally located and not obstructed by walls or large appliances.
  • Add More Deco Units: For larger homes or areas with dead zones, consider adding additional Deco units to expand your mesh network coverage.
  • Interference: Keep your Deco away from devices that emit strong electromagnetic interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).

7.3. Cannot Access Deco App

  • Connect to Deco Wi-Fi: Ensure your mobile device is connected to the Deco's Wi-Fi network.
  • App Update: Make sure your Deco app is updated to the latest version.
  • Reinstall App: If issues persist, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Deco app.

7.4. Factory Reset

If all else fails, you can perform a factory reset. This will erase all your settings and return the Deco to its default state. To reset, press and hold the Reset button on the back of the unit for approximately 1 second until the LED pulses red.
