Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Keurig K-Cafe Essentials.
Cleaning the Milk Frother
- After each use, rinse the frother pitcher and lid with warm water.
- For a more thorough clean, the frother pitcher and lid are top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the frother base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the base in water.
Cleaning the Drip Tray
- The drip tray can accumulate spills and should be cleaned regularly.
- Remove the drip tray and wash it with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
Descaling
Over time, calcium deposits (scale) can build up in your coffee maker. The "DESCALE" indicator light will illuminate when descaling is recommended. Refer to the full descaling instructions in the comprehensive user manual or on the Keurig website for detailed steps using a descaling solution.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee maker not brewing / Water not pumping | Low water in reservoir, air in system, or clogged needle. | Ensure reservoir is filled. Perform a cleansing brew without a K-Cup pod. If problem persists, refer to the manufacturer's website for detailed troubleshooting steps for airlocks or needle clogs. |
| Frother not working or producing enough foam | Frother not properly seated, insufficient milk, or frother needs cleaning. | Ensure the frother pitcher is correctly placed on its base. Check milk level (do not overfill or underfill). Clean the frother thoroughly, especially the whisk. Some milk types may froth better than others. |
| Coffee tastes weak or watery | Incorrect brew size selected, K-Cup pod issue, or machine needs descaling. | Select a smaller brew size for a stronger cup. Ensure the K-Cup pod is properly inserted. Consider using the "STRONG" brew option. Descale the machine if the DESCALE light is on. |
| "ADD WATER" light is on after filling reservoir | Water level sensor issue or reservoir not seated correctly. | Remove and re-seat the water reservoir firmly. Ensure it is filled above the minimum line. |
