4. Installation Guide

4.1 Before You Begin

  • Ensure the power source is disconnected before installation.
  • Verify that the pump is installed in a location protected from extreme weather and direct sunlight.
  • Confirm that all necessary fittings and hoses are available and compatible with the pump's 3/4'' and 1/2'' male connectors.
  • The pump is designed for fresh water circulating only. Avoid using with solid particles or corrosive liquids, as this may damage the diaphragm.

4.2 Connecting the Pump

  1. Attach Inlet Strainer: Connect the provided 50-mesh inlet strainer to the pump's inlet port. Ensure it is hand-tightened only to prevent damage. The strainer helps filter impurities and should be placed on the vacuum (suction) side.
  2. Connect Hoses: Use the appropriate 3/4'' or 1/2'' male inlet/outlet connectors and hose clamps to secure your water lines to the pump. Apply Teflon tape to threaded connections for a watertight seal.
  3. Electrical Connection: Hardwire the pump directly into your existing 12V DC electrical system. Ensure correct polarity (red wire to positive, black wire to negative) and use appropriate gauge wiring and fusing for a 170W, 12V DC pump (approximately 14.2 Amps, so a 15A or 20A fuse is recommended).

4.3 Mounting

  • The pump comes with rubber mounting feet to reduce vibration and noise.
  • Secure the pump to a stable surface using appropriate fasteners. If direct mounting is preferred, the rubber feet can be removed.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Initial Startup

  1. Ensure all plumbing connections are secure and leak-free.
  2. Confirm the water source is full and accessible to the pump's inlet.
  3. Turn on the 12V DC power supply to the pump.
  4. Open a faucet or water outlet in your system. The pump will automatically begin to draw water and build pressure. Allow water to flow until all air is purged from the system.

5.2 On-Demand Function

  • The pump is equipped with an on-demand pressure switch. It will automatically turn on when water pressure drops (e.g., when a faucet is opened) and turn off when pressure is restored (e.g., when a faucet is closed).
  • This feature conserves power and prevents continuous running when water is not being used.

5.3 Adjusting Pressure

  • The pump's factory default pressure setting is 45 PSI.
  • To adjust the pressure, locate the adjustment screw on the pressure switch (refer to Figure 2.3).
  • Turning the screw clockwise will increase the pressure.
  • Turning the screw counter-clockwise will decrease the pressure.
  • Adjust gradually and test the water flow until the desired pressure is achieved.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Inlet Strainer Cleaning

  • Regularly inspect and clean the 50-mesh inlet strainer to prevent blockages and maintain optimal pump performance.
  • To clean, disconnect power to the pump, unscrew the clear housing of the strainer, remove the mesh filter, and rinse it thoroughly under clean water.
  • Reassemble the strainer, ensuring it is hand-tightened only.

6.2 Winterization (for RV/Marine use)

  • Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump and plumbing system to prevent damage from ice expansion.
  • Consider using RV-specific antifreeze in your system according to its instructions.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your TDRFORCE water pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not turn onNo power, blown fuse, loose wiring, faulty switchCheck power supply, inspect fuse, tighten electrical connections, test switch.
Low water flow/pressureClogged inlet strainer, air in system, low water source, kinked hose, pressure switch setting too lowClean strainer, purge air by opening faucets, ensure adequate water supply, check hoses, adjust pressure switch.
Pump runs continuously (cycles)Leak in plumbing system, faulty pressure switch, air in systemInspect all connections for leaks, replace pressure switch if faulty, purge air from system.
Noisy operationVibration, air in system, debris in pumpEnsure pump is securely mounted on rubber feet, purge air, clean strainer and check for internal debris (if comfortable).
