4. Setup and Installation
The Minn Kota MKA-16-03 Quick Release Bracket allows for easy removal and reattachment of your trolling motor. Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Identify Mounting Location: Choose a flat, stable surface on your boat's bow for mounting the lower bracket. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for the trolling motor and its operation.
- Position the Lower Bracket: Place the deck-mounted bottom bracket in the desired location. Mark the drilling points for the mounting hardware.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Carefully drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Ensure the drill bit size is appropriate for the mounting hardware to prevent stripping or cracking.
- Secure the Lower Bracket: Attach the lower bracket to the boat deck using the provided mounting hardware. Tighten all fasteners securely. Note: Some users recommend applying anti-seize compound to stainless steel bolts during assembly to prevent galling, though this compound is not included.
- Attach Upper Bracket to Trolling Motor: Secure the upper bracket section to the base of your trolling motor using the appropriate hardware. Ensure it is aligned correctly and firmly attached.
- Compatibility: This bracket is compatible with Minn Kota Ulterra, Terrova, PowerDrive, PowerDrive V2, PowerDrive Pontoon, and Deckhand 40 trolling motors.

5. Operating Instructions
Once installed, the quick release bracket allows for simple attachment and detachment of your trolling motor:
- Attaching the Trolling Motor: Align the upper bracket (attached to the trolling motor) with the lower bracket (mounted on the deck). Slide the upper bracket into the lower bracket until it is fully seated.
- Securing the Motor: Use the side-screw lock mechanism to secure the trolling motor firmly in place. Turn the tightening screw until the motor is stable and does not wobble.
- Detaching the Trolling Motor: Loosen the side-screw lock. Carefully slide the upper bracket and trolling motor out of the lower bracket.
- Optional Security: For additional security, the brackets can be secured with a padlock (not included) through the designated opening.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your quick release bracket:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in marine environments, rinse the bracket with fresh water to remove salt, dirt, and debris. Wipe dry.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Check that all fasteners are tight.
- Lubrication: Apply a marine-grade lubricant to the sliding surfaces and the tightening screw mechanism as needed to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: If removing the trolling motor for extended storage, clean and inspect the bracket before storing it in a dry, protected area.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your quick release bracket, consider the following:
- Motor Wobbles After Attachment:
- Ensure the side-screw lock is fully tightened.
- Verify that the upper bracket is fully seated within the lower bracket.
- Check if the mounting hardware for both brackets is securely fastened to the boat and trolling motor.
- Difficulty Attaching/Detaching Motor:
- Ensure the side-screw lock is completely loosened.
- Inspect for any debris or obstructions in the sliding mechanism. Clean if necessary.
- Apply a marine-grade lubricant to the sliding surfaces.
- Corrosion:
- While the bracket is made of anodized aluminum, regular rinsing with fresh water is crucial, especially after saltwater exposure (though designed for freshwater, incidental exposure can occur).
- Address any signs of corrosion promptly with appropriate marine cleaning products.
