Setup and Installation

The EMOS antenna offers versatile installation options for both indoor and outdoor environments.

1. Choosing an Installation Location

For optimal signal reception, choose a location with minimal obstructions between the antenna and the broadcast tower. The antenna has a 360° reception angle, but direct line-of-sight is always preferable.

  • Outdoor Installation: Ideal for balconies, walls, or caravan/motorhome exteriors. The antenna is UV and weather-resistant.
  • Indoor Installation: Can be placed near a window or on a flat surface using the provided stand.

2. Mounting the Antenna

  1. For Pole Mounting (Outdoor): Use the U-bolt and associated hardware to secure the antenna bracket to a vertical pole. Tighten all nuts firmly.
  2. For Wall Mounting (Outdoor/Indoor): Use the wall mount bracket and screws to attach the antenna to a flat surface. Ensure the surface is sturdy enough to support the antenna.
  3. For Indoor Stand Placement: Attach the antenna to the provided stand and place it on a stable, flat surface.

3. Connecting the Antenna

  1. Connect one end of the 5-meter coaxial cable to the antenna's F-connector port.
  2. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the antenna input (ANT IN / RF IN) on your television, set-top box, or DVB-T2 tuner.

4. Powering the Amplifier

The integrated low-noise signal amplifier requires power for optimal performance.

  1. Connect the USB power cable to the amplifier unit.
  2. Plug the USB end of the cable into a USB port on your television (if available and provides 5V/550mA) or into the provided USB power adapter.
  3. Plug the USB power adapter into a standard electrical outlet.

Note: Some televisions can power the antenna directly via their USB port, eliminating the need for the external power adapter. Check your TV's manual for details.

Operating Instructions

Once the antenna is installed and connected, follow these steps to receive signals:

  1. Turn on your television or DVB-T2 tuner.
  2. Access the menu settings on your TV/tuner and navigate to the "Channel Scan" or "Auto Tune" option.
  3. Initiate the channel scan. The antenna will automatically detect available DVB-T2, DAB, and FM signals within its reception range (up to 80 km from the transmitter).
  4. The integrated LTE filter will automatically block unwanted mobile data signals (4G, 5G) to prevent interference and ensure clear reception of TV and radio broadcasts.
  5. Once the scan is complete, you should be able to access all available channels in Full HD resolution where supported.

Maintenance

The EMOS Universal Active Antenna is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the antenna surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Periodically check outdoor installations for secure mounting and cable integrity, especially after severe weather conditions.
  • Storage: If storing the antenna for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a dry, cool place.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No signal or poor signal quality
  • Antenna not powered.
  • Incorrect antenna positioning.
  • Loose cable connections.
  • Obstructions blocking signal.
  • TV/tuner not scanned for channels.
  • Ensure USB power cable is connected and power adapter is plugged in.
  • Adjust antenna position, try different locations (e.g., higher, near a window).
  • Check all coaxial cable connections at both the antenna and TV/tuner.
  • Relocate antenna away from large metal objects or buildings.
  • Perform a new channel scan on your TV/tuner.
Interference from mobile networks (4G/5G)
  • Antenna amplifier not active.
  • Strong local mobile signal.
  • Ensure the antenna amplifier is properly powered. The integrated LTE filter requires power to function.
  • The antenna has an integrated LTE filter designed to mitigate this. If interference persists, try repositioning the antenna slightly.
Only a few channels found
  • Weak signal in your area.
  • Antenna not optimally positioned.
  • Check online resources for broadcast tower locations in your area and try to orient the antenna towards them.
  • Experiment with different antenna heights and orientations.
