5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Tilting and Panning

  • Tilt Control: Use the tilt lock knob to adjust the vertical angle of your camera. The head supports a tilt range of +90° to -60°. Loosen the knob to tilt, and tighten to lock the position.
  • Pan Control: Use the pan lock knob to rotate the camera horizontally. The head allows for a full 360° panoramic rotation. Loosen the knob to pan, and tighten to lock the position.
  • Damping Adjustment: The step-less damping system provides resistance for smoother movements. Adjust the damping to achieve your desired fluidity for both tilt and pan operations.

5.2 Leveling the Head

The fluid head includes a built-in bubble level to assist in achieving a perfectly level horizon for your shots. Adjust your tripod legs or the leveling base of the fluid head until the bubble is centered.

5.3 Using Accessory Mounts

The 1/4"-20 threaded hole on the side of the fluid head allows for the attachment of various accessories, such as external monitors, microphones, or magic arms. Ensure any attached accessories do not exceed the head's overall load capacity or interfere with its movement.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the fluid head with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove dust and debris. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the fluid head in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity. When not in use, it is recommended to store it in its original packaging or a protective case.
  • Lubrication: The fluid damping system is factory-sealed and does not require user lubrication. Do not attempt to disassemble the fluid head for lubrication.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all screws and knobs to ensure they are securely tightened. If any part appears damaged or loose, contact SmallRig customer support.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Head feels too tight or stiff when panning/tilting: Ensure that the pan and tilt lock knobs are fully loosened. If the issue persists, the damping system might be set to a very high resistance. Adjust the step-less damping to a lower setting.
  • Quick release plate slides off easily: Ensure the quick release plate is fully inserted and the lock knob is tightened securely. Always double-check the plate's security before mounting a camera.
  • Handle feels loose: Tighten the handle by rotating it clockwise until it is firm. If the telescopic part is loose, ensure the internal locking mechanism is engaged after adjusting the length.
  • Unstable camera movement: Verify that the fluid head is securely mounted to the tripod and that the tripod itself is stable on a flat surface. Check that the camera is properly balanced on the quick release plate.
