4. Installation
Important Safety Information:
- Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before installation. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.
- This device requires a neutral wire for operation. If your existing switch does not have a neutral wire, consult a qualified electrician.
- Ensure your home's electrical wiring is compatible with the switch's requirements (100-120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 15 A).

4.1 Wiring Instructions
- Turn off Power: Locate your circuit breaker and turn off the power to the light switch you are replacing. Verify the power is off by attempting to turn the light on.
- Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and unscrew the old light switch from the wall box. Disconnect the wires.
- Identify Wires:
- Line/Load Wires: These are typically black wires. The Tapo S500 does not require distinguishing between line and load.
- Neutral Wire: This is usually a white wire. It is essential for the Tapo S500.
- Ground Wire: This is typically a green or bare copper wire.
- Connect Tapo S500: Connect the wires from your wall box to the Tapo S500 using the provided wire nuts.
