4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Mounting

The Defender-CCW is designed for versatile mounting options:

  • Direct Mount: Compatible with all Shield RMS and Shield RMSc footprints without requiring modifications.
  • Picatinny/Weaver Rail: Use the included Picatinny rail mount for attachment to compatible rails. Ensure the mount is securely fastened using the provided screws and custom tool.

4.2. Battery Installation

The Defender-CCW uses a CR1632 battery. To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery cap, typically on the side or top of the sight (refer to the product diagram in Section 3).
  2. Use the custom tool to unscrew the battery cap.
  3. Insert a fresh CR1632 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  4. Carefully screw the battery cap back on, ensuring a snug fit to maintain the waterproof seal. Do not overtighten.

4.3. Zeroing and Adjustments

After mounting, the red dot sight needs to be zeroed to your firearm. The Defender-CCW features precise elevation and windage adjustments:

  • Elevation Adjustment: The 'U-' marking indicates the direction for adjusting the point of impact upwards.
  • Windage Adjustment: The 'R' marking indicates the direction for adjusting the point of impact to the right.
  • Each click of the adjustment turrets corresponds to 1 MOA (Minute of Angle) of change at 100 yards.

Use the custom tool to make adjustments. Turn the turrets slowly and deliberately, noting the number of clicks for precise changes. Always confirm zero at your desired distance.

5. Operation

5.1. Power On/Off

The Defender-CCW features motion activation. When motion is detected, the red dot will automatically power on. If no motion is detected for 14 hours, the sight will automatically shut off to conserve battery life.

5.2. Brightness Adjustment

Adjust the brightness of the 6 MOA red dot using the 'Up' and 'Down' buttons (refer to the product diagram in Section 3). Press the 'Up' button to increase brightness and the 'Down' button to decrease it. The sight includes a button lock feature to prevent accidental changes to your preferred brightness setting during carry.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance, keep the lenses clean. Use the provided lens cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn smudges, a small amount of lens cleaning solution can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens. The ArmorTek coating provides scratch resistance, but care should still be taken.

6.2. Battery Replacement

Replace the CR1632 battery as described in Section 4.2 when the red dot appears dim or flickers, indicating low power. Always use a fresh, high-quality battery.

6.3. Storage

When not in use, store the Defender-CCW in a dry, cool place. Use the included rubber cover to protect the lenses from dust and scratches.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Defender-CCW, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Red Dot Not Visible: Check if the battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Ensure the brightness setting is not too low for ambient light conditions.
  • Red Dot Flickering: This often indicates a low battery. Replace the CR1632 battery. Also, ensure the battery cap is securely tightened.
  • Loss of Zero: Verify that the sight is securely mounted to your firearm. Check all mounting screws for proper torque. If the issue persists, re-zero the sight.
  • Buttons Unresponsive: Ensure the button lock feature is not engaged. If it is, unlock it according to the operating instructions.
