Getting Started (Setup)

  1. Unpack all game components from the packaging.
  2. Ensure all 15 card pieces (sponges, icings, cherries) and 4 cake cases are present.
  3. Place the Pop-a-Tops dice unit in the center of the playing area, accessible to all players.
  4. Distribute the cake cases evenly among players. If there are fewer than 4 players, any unused cases can be set aside.
  5. Shuffle all 15 card pieces thoroughly and place them face down in a single draw pile near the Pop-a-Tops unit.

How to Play (Operating)

The objective of Pop-a-Tops Bake a Cake is to be the first player to successfully assemble a complete cupcake consisting of a case, cake, icing, and cherry, matching the colors rolled on the dice.

  1. Starting the Game: The youngest player begins the game. Play proceeds clockwise.
  2. Taking a Turn: On your turn, press down firmly on the clear dome of the Pop-a-Tops unit to 'roll' the dice inside. The dice will tumble and land, showing a color, a cake part (e.g., 'cake', 'icing'), and potentially a special action symbol.
  3. Matching and Collecting: Based on the dice roll, identify the specific cake part and color. For example, if the dice show 'yellow' and 'icing', you need to find a yellow icing card. Search among the face-down cards in the draw pile for a matching piece. If you find a match, add it to your cupcake. If no match is found, or if you already have that specific part for your cupcake, your turn ends.
  4. Building Your Cupcake: You must assemble your cupcake in the correct order: first the case (which you start with), then a cake piece, followed by an icing piece, and finally a cherry piece. The color of your initial cake case determines the color of the cupcake you are trying to build.
  5. Special Rolls:
    • Swap Arrows: If the dice show the 'swap' arrows symbol, you may choose any opponent and swap one of your collected cake pieces with one of theirs.
    • Cake Monster's Mouth: If the dice show the 'Cake Monster's mouth' symbol, your current cupcake is 'guzzled'! You must return all collected pieces (cake, icing, cherry) to the draw pile and start building your cupcake again from scratch.
  6. Winning the Game: The first player to successfully assemble a complete cupcake (case, cake, icing, and cherry) wins the game!

Care and Storage (Maintenance)

  • Keep all game components clean and dry.
  • Wipe surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth if needed. Do not submerge any part of the game in water.
  • Store all cards and pieces inside the Pop-a-Tops unit when not in use to prevent loss and keep the game organized.
  • Avoid exposing the game to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight, which could cause damage or fading.
