Operating Instructions

Smart Screen Overview

The HD display screen provides real-time monitoring of your SSD. Upon connecting the enclosure, it will display the brand logo and firmware version. After the SSD is read, the main page will appear.

Understanding Display Information

  • SSD Info: Displays SSD serial number, capacity, firmware version, unsafe shutdown count, and remaining life prediction.
  • Monitor Page: Shows SSD temperature and USB interface voltage.
  • Transfer Page: Displays real-time read/write speeds, data transferred in the current session, and total data read/written over the drive's lifetime.

Read-Only Mode

The read-only mode is off by default. To enable it, navigate to the SSD Info page, move the cursor to the ON side for 'Read Only Mode', and hold the D-key for more than 3 seconds. Once enabled, the computer can only read the SSD's data and cannot move, modify, or edit it. Changes to this option will take effect after a full power-off and restart.

Power Loss Protection (PLP)

The 10-second PLP feature utilizes built-in capacitors to provide a short burst of power in the event of an unexpected power loss. This allows critical data in transit to be safely saved, minimizing the risk of data corruption. After the capacitor fully discharges, the device returns to its normal state. It is recommended to wait about 10 seconds before reconnecting the device to allow all circuits and data systems to fully reset.

Auxiliary Power

Some SSDs may require more power than a computer's USB port can provide, which can lead to performance issues or prevent the SSD from booting properly. By connecting the 15W auxiliary power supply to the dedicated Type-C port, this situation can be avoided, ensuring stable operation.

Maintenance

Heat Dissipation

The enclosure is designed with dual heat dissipation features, including an aluminum alloy fin cover and a graphite thermal pad. These components maximize heat dissipation and airflow, reducing SSD heat by 20% and ensuring stability and longevity of your SSD.

Firmware Updates

Firmware updates for the DockCase enclosure are typically available by contacting technical support. It is recommended to check the official DockCase website or contact their support for the latest firmware versions and update procedures.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • SSD Not Detected/Recognized: If the enclosure is not detected or the SSD is not recognized, especially after a power interruption or connecting to a different PC, ensure the internal capacitor is fully discharged before plugging it in. Wait approximately 10 seconds after power loss before reconnecting.
  • Slow Transfer Speeds: Ensure you are using a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port on your host device and that the UASP acceleration protocol is supported. Also, verify that the SSD itself is high-performance NVMe media. If the power supply is insufficient, connect the 15W auxiliary power supply.
  • Data Loss/Corruption: The 10s PLP feature is designed to prevent this. If data loss occurs, it might be due to extreme power fluctuations or not allowing the PLP to complete its cycle. Always ensure proper dismount procedures.
  • Enclosure Not Powering On: If the enclosure does not power on, ensure it is properly connected to a power source. If using a low-power USB port, try connecting the 15W auxiliary power supply. If the issue persists, the device may be faulty.
