INDEM TBAT-L Emergency Battery Kit M4001046 User Manual

Model: TBAT-L M4001046

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of the INDEM TBAT-L Emergency Battery Kit. This supplementary lithium buffer battery is specifically designed for use with INDEM TIRO 60 and TIRO 100 traction motors, ensuring continued functionality during power outages.

The TBAT-L system is managed by the motor's central unit for optimal charging and discharging, extending the device's lifespan. In the event of a power failure, the battery system automatically activates, providing sufficient power for approximately 4-5 motor operations, thereby eliminating the need for manual mechanical unlocking to open the door.

2. Safety Information

  • Do not open the battery casing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Opening the unit voids the warranty and may expose you to hazardous components.
  • Do not dispose of in the environment. Follow local regulations for battery recycling.
  • Do not install the battery if it is damaged. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage before installation.
  • Ensure correct polarity during connection. Although the connection is "easy plug," always verify proper alignment.
  • Operating temperature range: The battery is designed to operate within -20°C to 45°C. Avoid exposing the unit to temperatures outside this range.
  • Keep away from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Refer to the main motor's instruction manual for specific safety guidelines related to the overall automation system.

4. Setup and Installation

  1. Power Off: Before beginning installation, ensure the main power supply to the INDEM TIRO traction motor is disconnected.
  2. Locate Connector: Identify the dedicated "easy plug" connector on your INDEM TIRO 60 or TIRO 100 traction motor. Refer to your motor's instruction manual if you have difficulty locating it.
  3. Connect Battery: Align the connector from the TBAT-L battery unit with the corresponding port on the motor. Gently push until it clicks securely into place. The connection is designed to be intuitive and prevent incorrect insertion.
  4. Mount Battery: Secure the TBAT-L battery unit to the motor housing or a suitable adjacent surface using the integrated mounting points (as seen in Figure 2) and appropriate fasteners (not included). Ensure it is stable and does not interfere with motor operation.
  5. Restore Power: Once the battery is securely connected and mounted, restore the main power supply to the traction motor. The motor's central unit will automatically begin managing the battery's charging process.

Note: The TBAT-L battery is designed to be managed entirely by the motor's central unit, which handles both charging and discharging cycles to optimize battery life.

5. Operating Instructions

The INDEM TBAT-L Emergency Battery Kit operates automatically in conjunction with your INDEM TIRO traction motor.

  • Normal Operation: Under normal conditions with main power supplied, the TBAT-L battery remains in a charged state, maintained by the motor's central unit. It does not interfere with the regular operation of the motor.
  • Power Outage: In the event of a power failure, the TBAT-L battery automatically activates, providing emergency power to the traction motor. This allows for approximately 4-5 additional opening or closing maneuvers of the garage door.
  • Restoring Power: Once main power is restored, the battery system will automatically revert to charging mode, and the motor will resume normal operation.

This automatic functionality ensures that you can operate your garage door even when the primary power source is unavailable, avoiding the inconvenience of manual unlocking.

6. Maintenance

The INDEM TBAT-L battery is designed for minimal maintenance, as its charging and discharging cycles are managed by the INDEM TIRO motor's central unit.

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the battery unit and its connections for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the battery remains within its specified operating temperature range of -20°C to 45°C. Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat, cold, or direct sunlight.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently wipe the exterior of the battery unit with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Do Not Open: As stated in the safety information, never attempt to open the battery casing.
  • Disposal: When the battery reaches the end of its service life, dispose of it responsibly according to local regulations for lithium-ion batteries. Do not discard with general household waste.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your INDEM TBAT-L Emergency Battery Kit, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Battery Not Providing Power During Outage:
    • Check Connection: Ensure the battery is securely connected to the motor's dedicated port. A loose connection can prevent proper operation.
    • Verify Motor Compatibility: Confirm that your motor is an INDEM TIRO 60 or TIRO 100 model. The TBAT-L is designed specifically for these models.
    • Battery Charge Level: If the battery has been recently installed or if there have been frequent power outages, it might not have had sufficient time to fully charge. Allow time for charging when main power is available.
    • Battery Lifespan: Like all batteries, the TBAT-L has a finite lifespan. If the battery is old, its capacity may have diminished. Consider replacement if other troubleshooting steps fail.
    • Motor Central Unit: The motor's central unit manages the battery. If the motor itself is malfunctioning, it may affect battery operation. Consult the motor's manual or a qualified technician.
  • Unusual Noises or Smells: Immediately disconnect power to the motor and battery if you notice any unusual noises, smells, or smoke. Do not attempt to use the battery and contact a qualified technician.

If the problem persists after following these steps, contact INDEM customer support or a qualified service technician.
