4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Placement: Place the soldering station on a stable, heat-resistant surface in a well-ventilated area.
  3. Connect Soldering Iron: Connect the soldering iron handle cable to the designated port on the front of the soldering station. Ensure a secure connection.
  4. Install Soldering Iron Stand: Place the soldering iron stand in a convenient location near the station. The stand includes a brass wool tip cleaner and a sponge for maintenance.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into the back of the soldering station and then into a grounded electrical outlet (110-240V compatible).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

To power on the unit, flip the main power switch located on the side of the station. The LCD display will illuminate, showing the current temperature settings.

5.2 Temperature Control and Conversion

The BK969S features a digital LCD display for precise temperature monitoring and PID temperature control for stability. The temperature range is 180°C to 480°C (356°F to 896°F).

  • Setting Temperature: Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the front panel to adjust the desired temperature. The display will show the set temperature.
  • °C/°F Conversion: To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit display, press the 'C/F' button.

5.3 Sleep Mode and Auto Wake

The soldering station is equipped with a sleep mode to conserve energy and prolong tip life. When the soldering iron is placed in its stand and remains inactive for a set period, it automatically enters sleep mode, reducing the tip temperature to 100°C/212°F. Picking up the iron will automatically wake it up and return it to the set working temperature.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Tip Cleaning

Regular cleaning of the soldering tip is crucial for optimal performance and longevity.

  • Brass Wool: Use the brass wool provided in the stand to gently wipe off excess solder and oxidation from the tip.
  • Damp Sponge: A damp (not soaking wet) sponge can also be used to clean the tip. Ensure the sponge is free of abrasive particles.

6.2 Tip Replacement

The soldering iron tips are replaceable. Ensure the unit is powered off and cooled down before attempting to replace a tip. Gently unscrew the retaining nut, remove the old tip, insert the new tip, and re-tighten the nut.

6.3 General Cleaning

Keep the soldering station and iron handle clean and free of dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Unit Not Powering On: Check the power cord connection and ensure the power switch is in the 'ON' position. Verify the power outlet is functional.
  • Iron Not Heating: Ensure the soldering iron is securely connected to the station. Check the temperature setting on the display. If the display shows an error code, refer to the full user manual for specific error interpretations.
  • Temperature Instability: This could be due to a loose tip, a worn-out heating element, or an issue with the sensor. Ensure the tip is properly seated.
  • Short Circuit Protection: The unit has heating core short-circuit protection. If an abnormal short circuit occurs, the machine will alarm. Disconnect power and inspect the heating element and sensor for damage.
