3. Setup

  1. Prepare Portafilter: Ensure your 58mm portafilter basket is clean and dry.
  2. Attach Funnel: Place the Normcore Dosing Funnel directly onto the rim of your 58mm portafilter basket. The integrated magnets will align and secure the funnel in place. Ensure a snug fit to prevent grounds from escaping.

4. Operating Instructions

  1. Grinding: With the funnel attached, grind your desired amount of coffee directly into the portafilter basket. The funnel's height helps contain all grounds, preventing spillage onto your workspace.
  2. Distribution (WDT): If using a WDT tool, perform the distribution technique within the funnel. The funnel's design allows for thorough stirring and breaking up of clumps without grounds overflowing.
  3. Removal: Once grinding and distribution are complete, gently lift the funnel from the portafilter using the knurled edge. The magnets provide sufficient hold during use but allow for easy removal.
  4. Tamping: Proceed with tamping your coffee grounds as usual. The funnel is designed to be removed before tamping.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and hygiene of your dosing funnel, follow these cleaning instructions:

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, wipe the funnel with a dry cloth or brush to remove any residual coffee grounds.
  • Periodic Cleaning: For a more thorough clean, wash the funnel with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a soft cloth to prevent water spots and maintain the anodized finish.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the anodized aluminum surface.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Funnel Not Sticking Securely:
    • Ensure the portafilter basket is made of a ferrous material that magnets can adhere to. Some stainless steel alloys may have weaker magnetic attraction.
    • Check for any debris or coffee grounds on the rim of the portafilter or the base of the funnel that might prevent a flush connection.
  • Coffee Grounds Sticking to Funnel Interior:
    • This can occur due to static electricity. Lightly misting the coffee beans with water before grinding (RDT - Ross Droplet Technique) can help reduce static.
    • Ensure the funnel is completely dry before use.
