6. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to perform a brake fluid boiling point test:

6.1. Mode Selection

The AS506 offers two testing modes:

  • Normal Mode: For general testing of common brake fluid types (DOT3, DOT4, DOT5.1).
  • Brand Mode: For specific brake fluid brands that may have unique boiling point characteristics. The device covers 14 leading brands.

Use the 'Tab' key on the device to select your desired mode.

6.2. Testing Procedure

  1. After preparing the sample and connecting power (as per Section 5), turn on the device.
  2. Select either "NORMAL MODE" or "BRAND MODE" using the 'Tab' key.
  3. If in Normal Mode, select the specific brake fluid type (e.g., DOT3, DOT4) using the 'Tab' key. If in Brand Mode, navigate through the listed brands to select the correct one.
  4. Immerse the test stick into the brake fluid sample in the beaker, ensuring the sampling hole is fully submerged.
  5. Press and hold the 'S' (Start) button for approximately 16 seconds. The device will display a progress bar and the current temperature.
  6. Once the test is complete, the device will display the Dry Boiling Point, Wet Boiling Point, and the final temperature.

6.3. Interpreting Results

The test results provide the Dry Boiling Point (for new brake fluid) and the Wet Boiling Point (for brake fluid in use). Compare these values to the reference table below to determine the condition of your brake fluid.

Reference Value of Brake Fluid Boiling Point
TypesDry Boiling Point (Brand new brake fluid)Wet Boiling Point (Brake fluid in use)
DOT3205°C / 401°F140°C / 284°F
DOT4230°C / 446°F155°C / 311°F
DOT4+230°C / 446°F155°C / 311°F
DOT5260°C / 500°F180°C / 356°F
DOT5.1270°C / 518°F190°C / 374°F

A lower wet boiling point indicates higher water content in the brake fluid, which reduces its effectiveness and can lead to brake fade. If the measured wet boiling point is significantly lower than the reference value, brake fluid replacement is recommended.
