4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Gimbal

Before first use, fully charge the gimbal. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the gimbal's charging port and a USB power adapter (not included). The OLED display will indicate the charging status. The gimbal supports reverse charging, allowing you to charge your smartphone via its power out port during use.

4.2 Mounting and Balancing Your Smartphone

  1. Extend the smartphone clamp and securely place your phone in it. Ensure the phone is centered and balanced. The iSteady M6 supports a payload of up to 400g.
  2. Adjust the roll axis arm to balance your phone. Proper balancing is crucial for optimal performance and to prevent motor strain. The gimbal can be powered on whether your phone is in front of or behind the roll motor, allowing for unobstructed ultra-wide-angle shots.

4.3 App Installation and Connection

For full functionality and advanced features, download the Hohem Joy app from your smartphone's app store. While some features work independently, the app unlocks the full potential of the gimbal.

  • Search for "Hohem Joy" in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  • Install the app and open it.
  • Turn on the gimbal.
  • Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and connect to the iSteady M6 within the Hohem Joy app.

5. Operating the Gimbal

5.1 Power On/Off

Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the OLED display illuminates to power on the gimbal. Repeat the action to power off.

5.2 Gimbal Modes

The iSteady M6 offers various operating modes to suit different shooting scenarios. Press the Mode (M) button to cycle through them:

  • Pan Follow (PF): The tilt and roll axes are locked, and the pan axis follows the handle's movement.
  • Pan & Tilt Follow (PTF): The roll axis is locked, and the pan and tilt axes follow the handle's movement.
  • All Lock (AL): All three axes are locked, keeping the camera pointing in a fixed direction.
  • POV (Point of View): All three axes follow the handle's movement, providing a first-person perspective.
  • Inception Mode: Rotates your smartphone camera 360 degrees indefinitely for a dynamic shooting effect. Activate by pressing the M button three times in a row.
  • Sport Mode: Provides faster motor response for quick movements. Activate by pressing and holding the Trigger button.

5.3 Control Wheel Functions

  • Press 2 times: Switch between Focus and Roll control.
